As long as social conservatives have tons of money to donate to campaigns the gun-loving, Bible-thumping candidate will always have a place at the table, as will representatives of the no-regulation crowd.

You would think this was laughable, but this is the United States. I wouldn't be surprised if a Britney Spears/Paris Hilton ticket wouldn't come close to winning an election here.

i just saw this on msn when i signed on. wtf are they thinking? granted, we have 4 years ahead of us and a LOT can happen, but i would think if this election proved nothing else, is that america does not want a sarah palin in the executive office.

Assuming Obama doesn't screw up royally, if I were republican I would consider 2012 a wash and start grooming a team for 2016. Maybe it's reverse racism, but the republicans are going to have to make serious headway with minority groups, because minority groups will become the overwhelming majority (as a whole) over the next 8 years.

The GOP needs to find a leader for their party and Palin is not it. If they even want to compete in 2010, the mid-terms, and then again in 2012 they need strong vocal leadership NOW. Just like when Clinto came into office they had Gingrich ready to stand up to the administration and rally the base. Right now there is no one like that in the GOP. Also they need to stop catering solely to the Christian Right. That type of mentality may have won them the 2000 and 2004 election but it's not cutting it anymore. They need to someone who will lead the party back to it's roots of limited government and fiscal responsibility and again Palin is not the person to do that.

  • She is the darling of social conservatives, so I can see why they are pushing it.

They only possible way that she could pull it off, is if she got Steven's senate spot and resurrected her reputation. Going back to Alaska, no matter how well she does there, isn't going to get her the attention that she needs.

And being governor, especially from a state that far away, would put a damper on all of the early campaigning that needs to be done. There is talk about Huckabee going to Iowa this month... How is a sitting governor going to be able to spend that much time out of her state?

I think the beans that were spilled yesterday regarding Palin by McCain campaign staffers pretty much sunk any hope of this waterhead bimbo from Alaska running for anything in the future.

She may need to brush up on a few key things like NAFTA and Wolrd Geography before she throws her hat in the political ring again.

She was lucky to make it as far as she did.

actually, i think that's a GOOD thing for us all...and a pretty fair and accurate assessment. :) she scares the bejeebus outta me! if the reps have her as a prez candidate in 2012, it will just further prove their vast disconnect with most of america.

  • political parties are slow learners. look at the dems. after nominating a boring, empty suit like Gore, they did the exact same thing next election and nominated Kerry.

she will definately be in the running next election. the social conservatives arent dead yet...

Also, she'll be running against an incumbent, and if Obama is half the messiah he says he is, nobody will be able to beat him anyway.

In fact, I think the social conservatives will come back even stronger. I got stuck listening to right-wing radio on my drive home the day after the election and those folks were pissed. A lot of conservatives weren't fully behind McCain and those hosts were all saying it was time to reassess the direction of the party and quit pandering to the middle since the people who weren't true believers would never come into the fold. Granted, radio personalities such as Dennis Miller, Laura Ingraham and Rush Limbaugh are paid to be over the top, but a lot of people listen to them and take their words as from on high.

her biggest flaw is that she uneducated ... you can list her degrees and her "experience" all you want but bush graduated from yale ... we all know that shit means nothing if you don't know how the executive branch works in the gov't she hopes to lead ...

it was in fact her "experience" that was the only thing anyone positive could say about her ...

In four years, she will have even more executive experience than Obama.

You've contradicted yourself in your own post ... Palin is "uneducated" ... but Bush went to Yale, so what difference does it make?

Her lack of experience -- "I can see Russia from my house" -- was the No. 1 reason people who would otherwise be inclined to support her did not. That won't be a problem in 2012.

Now, by then, there might be another candidate that's more appealing. I don't know. But I do know it's silly to discount Palin as a candidate in four years, based on her resume in 2008.

Actually, I think in four years, the gap would still be the same ... you're just (ostensibly) adding four years to each side of the ledger.

Honestly, I don't think her lack of experience was the reason people did not back her. It was her lack of understanding. Big difference.

Right, but 6 years is even more impressive than 4 years.

Yeah, and six years of being the governor of the smallest state in the union should count more towards experience than four years as the POTUS. Makes sense.
