Shorter Setlists in 08?

Anyone concerned by the fairly short encores? They've only been 4 or 3 songs each. Usually its 5 or 6. Granted, I know it's just the beginning of the short tour, and they usually do this in the beginning of a tour. But I was just kind of surprised, and I was wondering how everyone else felt and if they thought it would continue like this the rest of the tour, or increase in songs as the tour goes on.

Both of these shows were warm ups. This tour is going to explode after Bonnaroo.

    Concerned?

Nah. If the worst thing that happens to me is that PJ only plays 25 songs, I'm cool with that.

i so hope you are right on this one...

if bonnaroo is the best show of the whole tour, i am frankly going to be a little pissed. reasons:

    a) because i wasn't there

    b) because 80% of the people there could give a crap less about PJ (like Lolla last year)

    c) um, because i wasn't there?

I think the amount of songs will increase. If they don't an awesome main set (like these last two shows) would be nice.

I think we have just been spoiled over the last few tours, the first time I saw them was in 2000, and the second encore was Last Kiss and Yellow Ledbetter... thats it. The last time I saw them, not including Lolla, was in 2006 when the second encore was Go, Comatose, U, Don't Gimme No Lip, Smile, Why Go, Fuckin' Up, Yellow Ledbetter. It wouldn't be fair of me to expect eight song second encores every time I see them, and maybe it became a little too much for Pearl Jam as well.

But at the same time, as people have been saying, this happens on a lot of tours, where the first few shows are shorter, and by the time that PJ really hits their stride and starts playing 30+ song shows, the tour is over. But who knows what is in store for us the rest of the way.
words seem so out of place.

They're just warming up.. do you want Ed to ruin his voice? 25 songs is a lot to spit out.

Remember back when they only had an album or two of material? As long as this band plays 20+ songs, we are spoiled!

Shorter shows can be way more tight and intense. I'd rather have the band put their heart into 20 to 25 songs than have to pace themselves for 30+.

Not really. These were the first couple shows of 2006:

    1st show Astoria - 23 songs
    2nd Show Irving Plaza - 21 songs
    3rd Show - Toronto 1 - 24 songs
    4th Show - Toronto 2 - 30 songs
    5th Show - Albany 28 songs

I'm not counting 2007 because many were festivals.

Saw both the shows and yes, the setlists are shorter. its expected though, i think in past years, the first few shows were always shorter in length. but even still, the band came out very tight, you'd expect them to be a little rusty, but they rocked hard. i think the variation in the setlist is key for the rest of the tour. also, they cut down on covers, which i kind of think is a good thing. now, if only something can be done instead of ending every concert with yellow ledbetter....

Quality, not quantity...take the time to savour what you get and enjoy every moment! It irks me when people focus on what they don't play rather than what they DO play. It's sad. But, whatever. Maybe I'm an idiot.

Look at the first few shows of 2006. They are literally the exact same length as these two. Then all of a sudden it started picking up for Chicago and then WHAM!! Grand Rapids.

Don't worry everyone. Do you think this band is seriously gonna play 25 songs at Madison Square Garden??? Don't think so.. ;)

Most shows I've seen in my lifetime, and there have been many. many. many of them, have been two hours. Now I love that pearl jam plays longer than that most nights, but to expect them to play three hours every night is a bit ridiculous.

Between Eddies voice, and Matt Camerons mid 40's body trying to drum like he does, well, if they can only go two hours, that'd be fine with me. I've never seen a bad PJ show. I've seen plenty of shows where the band was just phoning it in, but I've never seen PJ do that. As long as they bring it like they mean it. I don't need a marathon. Actually, by 2.5 hours, I'm about ready to wrap it up...Not that I haven't enjoyed the few marathons I've seen, I'm just sayin.

I don't get the folks who get 'concerned' about such things. To each his own I suppose, but here's a band that by all rights should be pulling back the tour schedule and raising their babies, but instead they have taken it out on the road every year for the last five years.

    Spoiled is the word alright.
