obama's message of change - what do you expect?

just curious.

it seems that by running on a platform of 'change'...it's almost like many expect him to reinvent the wheel, turn government and politics on it's head. if not *drastic* change, then it simply doesn't count.

i have, and always had, more moderate hopes and expectations for this *change*.....and i still think it would be significant change. especially now with a democrat controlled executive, congress and senate majority...i envision 'change' in regards to more collaobrative efforts, working towards ending the war, working on healthcare, etc. still pretty big 'change'.....but maybe perhaps not as significant as others expect?

This will be a typical "change" of administrations. We'll see a lot of reversals of policies and funding. But as in terms of economics and foreign policy, I do not think we'll see much change at all. The real "change" is from Rep to Dem, not large, looming issues being corrected or adjusted or even tackled.

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis
  • "While millions of Americans voted for the Democratic candidate believing he would end the war in Iraq and address their pressing economic needs, powerful sections of the American elite swung behind him as a better vehicle to prosecute US economic and strategic interests in the Middle East and Central Asia-including the use of military force against Iran." (and elsewhere)

Sums it up perfectly. Obama has essentially turned into another Bush when it comes to foreign policy. All the same neo-con advisers and mentors filling his head with hate and war.

A lot of people in denial over it.
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

while i agree there won't be this huge change - and i don't think that was truly promised/iplied either, i do think there will be significant change, and not just simply b/c of political party....but i believe getting out of iraq, developing a new system of healthcare....pretty damn big changes. i also hope that we have a more pragmatic president, thoughtful and bit more cautious in his foreign policy.

also, i know there was flak for choosing biden, and others who've been washington insiders for years....but does everyone really think that with the proper circumstance and encouragement, that even long-time politicans cannot/w ill not support change, new policies, etc? in a new climate, one can't support new ideas, even if they're old dogs in the game? just asking opinions....

  • what change do i expect?

    1. shift back to democrat agenda instead of republican agenda.
    2. a president not considered a total moron.
    3. the ability to goto Europe and not have things thrown at me.

i guess that will do for now.

i expect it will be hard for obama to make significant change unless he can do 1 of 2 things:

    1. shutout the influence of lobbyists and the corporate agenda
    2. unite the country - without buy-in for his changes, all you will get is people working against you ...

Well I guess the real question is what you find important. To me, people in our nation have grand ideas about domestic policies where I do not really care about such things. To me, the most influencial policies home and abroad are the economy and foreign policy. People in our nation have all the power yet ignore their obligation and participation in our system yet have the audacity to complain when things aren't set in their favor. Our system is broken because we the people have let it become as such. The Dems may come in a "reform" (and I use that word lightly) some policies, but in general terms, it will be a small shift to the center of politics when in fact this nation truly needs radical transaction in most areas, but since we forsake our input, we allow it to not occur and big business and government rule the roost. So overall in my opinion, the "change" Obama refers too is also the kind you'd find in a baby's bottom when it needs a change... a big load.

    absolute agreement there.
i was/am merely curious on other perspectives what they hope/expect with the whole change message, and i know that'll vary greatly. also, i think most obama supporters, my own conjecture here.....expect more modest, but important change....and those who did not support obama will think him a 'failure' since he will not implement the kind of the change they desired. time will tell, that's for sure!

    and....

    :D
    gotcha.

i don't think living up to your word is too much to ask for w/ all the rhetoric he spouted the past 2 years
    standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
    eager to identify with
    someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way

I expect to see a different person giving state of the union speeches. Other than that, not so much...

Well this is also the main reason the population is a bunch of idiots as every 2 and 4 yrs, all politicians campaign and promise things they never deliver upon or know full well that it won't occur. But because we have a public relations contest (our elections), people ignorantly buy into it.
