A new CNN/Opinion Research Corp. Poll finds that may be a political liability for McCain. Nearly half of the Americans surveyed, 47 percent, are concerned that McCain would not finish a four-year term as president in good health.

To pre-empt those concerns, McCain has allowed reporters -- including CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta -- to look through more than 1,100 pages of his medical records. This spring, McCain's personal physician, Dr. John Eckstein, released a letter saying there is no medical reason "that would preclude McCain from fulfilling all the duties and obligations of the president of the United States."

Still, the issue hasn't gone away in the minds of voters.

  • Life expectancy for males in the US is 86. McCain is 82.

    McCain is 72...

And this is a non-issue, Democrats would be wise to drop it.

The simple fact that he would be 76 years old after 4 years and ****80***in his last term is a major concern.

well, according to this poll, apparently to some voters it is an issue. so how can you call it a non-issue?

i'm not sure who you are talking to when you say that democrats would be wise to drop it. who exactly representing obama/biden is using this?

and fyi...i'm voting obama and and it has absolutely, 110% nothing to do with mccain being 72 years old.

You can't be serious. According to his medical history, McCain has about a 1 in 6 chance of not surviving his first term. And if that were to happen, obviously Palin would become President. I don't think we have to debate how scary a scenario that would be.

This is hardly a non-issue 'my friends.'

add in some torture, and some nam agent orange contamination, and he's 82.

    Intellectually he's a child though

Why is it a non-issue? Do you seriously think that only democrats are concerned about a scenario that could make Sarah Palin, the President of the United States by default? Hell even Todd knows this.

Wasn't Obama's mother 52 when she died of cancer?

Democrats, as in Joe Biden and Barack should definitely leave the age thing alone.

Everyone on this board, feel free to make as big a deal about it as you wish.

I have plenty of problems with McCain/ Palin and none being age.

I would agree if he had not chosen palin...

he opened the door with that choice...therefore, it's fair game....
  • couple things:

    - the fact that he has 1100 pages in his medical records says a lot on it own.
    - the inclusion of palin on his ticket makes his health that more of an issue since less than 50% think she is even qualified.

as for 72, he is an old 72. this guy is waddling around like the penguin: http://www.holytaco.com/2008/10/07/john-mccain-should-be-the-next-penguin/

  • 1100 pages of medical history?
