hey, it only took what, 3 weeks?
Sarah Palin took her first impromptu question from a reporter traveling with her campaign Wednesday while shaking hands at a restaurant called Karl's Inn of the Barristers in Cleveland.
A pool reporter from the national press corps asked Palin's reaction to the federal bailout of insurance giant AIG.
Palin said she is "disappointed that taxpayers are called upon to bailout another one."
"Certainly AIG, though, with the construction bonds that they're holding, and with the insurance that they are holding, very, very impactful to Americans," she said. "So you know, the shot that has been called by the feds, its understandable but very, very disappointing that taxpayers are called upon for another one."
The reporter asked Palin if she had plans to come to the back of the campaign plane to chat with the reporters who cover her as she campaigns around the country.
"We're getting lonely back there," the reporter said.
"Are you getting lonely?," Palin answered. "Gee, yeah, come on up then!"
When Palin entered the restaurant with her husband Todd, she introduced herself to about 10 patrons as "Sarah," and told them, "Excuse me for interrupting your meal." It was Palin's first retail campaign stop since the day McCain tapped her as his running mate.

power to the peaceful
Fucked, I tell ya, we are fucked!
And the spin will be predictable. It will say that she handled it well. This is what we have been reduced to. Potentially our future president handled an impromptu question and actually handled herself OK!
Are we all confident in her now?
Ummm...if you are going to criticize someone for something, it seem legit to determine hwo they handle the situation, no?
Or, do you just want it 1 way and not the other...only criticizing?
The point is that a potential US President should be able to handle themselves. The news is how remarkably unprepared Palin was for the first interview, NOT that she fielded an impromptu question. That should not be news.
The criticism of Sarah Palin on this topic is ridiculous in my opinion...but feel free to hate away on everything.
You think it is ridiculous to criticize Palin for her ability/inability to answer impromptu questions? I am not "hating away" on everything. I truly don't understand why this should be off limits.
In my opinion, if Obama or Biden (or McCain) went out and showed the lack of understanding that Palin has, it would be highly newsworthy, and probably would be much more of a story than Palin's has been to date.
They have...look at their spending and then their tax plan...that's a true lack of understanding.
Also, Biden has no clue what the term outsider means if he thinks that by taking the train home after works means he isn't connected to the city and the politics that he has spent 36 years in.
Go ahead a critize people for whatever you want, I think it's petty and stupid the way people are attacking her on this...perhaps she'd be better if she added the 5 million, ummm...errrr...ahhhs that Obama uses when nto reading a prepared speech.
Build her a statue!

When you say "attacking her on this" what are you saying should be off limits? I am not even talking about a specific issue here (although reasonable minds differ on what you mention of course). I am talking about the fact that her ability to finally field an impromptu question should not be newsworthy. The fact that this election has been reduced to this is scary as hell. Candidates should be scrutinized on everything, and the McCain campaign shielding Palin from the press is unprecedented and outrageous.
This is the topic here. Should Palin be shielded or babied from the press? Should she be lauded for answering a question off the cuff? I don't think so.
About her supposed inability to answer questions unless she has a scripted answer...it's just stupid and petty. Yep, it is scary as hell that we even talk abotu it. Just wait for the debates.
I'm sorry, but one debate is not enough for me. This person could very well be our president. I want to know more about her, and as you know up until a couple weeks ago, most of us knew literally nothing about her.
There are questions and concerns for people trying to determine how they will vote.
