Deadheads for Obama

Grateful Dead Members to Reunite for Barack Obama

(San Francisco) Members of the Grateful Dead will host a get out the vote concert in support of Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama on Monday, February 4th at The Warfield Theatre in San Francisco.

Mickey Hart, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir, joined by Jackie Greene, John Molo, and Steve Molitz, will play show together in support of Barack Obama.

The video website Iclips will be producing a live simulcast streamed via the Internet on http://www.iclips.net at approximately 7:30pm PST.

This will mark the first time that the members of the legendary band have performed together since 2004. They have agreed to reunite for this one-time-only event in order to lend support to Senator Obama leading into the crucial “Super- Tuesday” series of primaries held on Tuesday, February 5th.

  • I used to volunteer on a Permaculture\Biodynamic farm & land conservancy ... the farmer that ran the 900 acre site was a old hippie who knew people like Jimmy Page and Ken Kesey personaly.

He said there was always a lot of talk from the radical politicos of the 60s that the Dead were bought off early by the establishment. Something about, since Kesey got in to LSD through government test programs, and the Warlocks (The Dead) were the house band for the acid tests, it "only makes sense" that the government would have gotten to the band pretty early on. Something else about it probably wouldn't have been to hard to do, because Bobby was already an idiot and Jerry was gullible.

The theory being that the "message" being promoted by the government was "TUNE OUT!" ... just take a lot of drugs and don't even think about politics ... be brain dead and whacked out ... just don't get in the way of business.

    Lol.
I am in NO way saying i buy in to that.
But i thought it was really funny at the time, and he was really serious telling this to me.

    :D
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

This adding periods to the end of every sentence is getting pretty old then.
  • flipping through the stations on Sirius last night after a poker game, I stumbled onto the Grateful Dead channel - they were boradcasting it live, and I listened to some of it - since I was a bit of a Dead Head in the 80s. They sounded really good - and caught my attention.

Didn't know this was about Obama, but listened to some nonetheless.

For those that dig the Dead, you might want to seek this out. It is worth a listen.
For those who scoff at "Jamily" in my name... 9 years ago, when my first daughter was born there were jokes about whether my priority would be my family or PJ. I smiled and quipped "I am a JamilyMan." What was a family joke became a hated term among jammers. Didn't see that one coming!

dude its not about the endorsement
its about the core three on stage together again!
  • I don't want to be hostile. I don't want to be dismal. But I don't want to rot in an apathetic existance either.
  • I wish they would make this a regular occurrence and not just for Obama.
    Peace,

I think its more significant that they got together
the fact that they endorsed Obama means little to me
    you may be right
