Bill Clinton campaign chief backs Obama
By PHILIP ELLIOTT, Associated Press Writer
The man who served as national manager of former President Clinton's 1992 campaign plans to endorse Sen. Barack Obama, an aide to Obama said Wednesday.
Obama's campaign planned a 1 p.m. conference call Wednesday to announce the endorsement by David Wilhelm, who later became chairman of the Democratic National Committee, according to an aide who spoke on condition of anonymity because the announcement would be made public later in the day.
Wilhelm planned to tell reporters that Obama can build a coalition of Democrats, independents and Republicans needed to win the general election.
Wilhelm is a superdelegate who was previously uncommitted in the race. His endorsement helps Obama in the race for delegates, in which he pulled ahead after Tuesday's sweeps of primaries in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Clinton remains considerably ahead in superdelegates, which are party officials, elected officials and others who can vote however they choose at the nominating convention.
If the race for pledged delegates based on outcomes in caucuses and primaries across the country remains tight, superdelegates could decide the nomination.
Obama leads the delegate race with 1,224 to 1,198 to Clinton, according to the latest count by The Associated Press.

If anyone has lost anything because of debates it is Senator Clinton. The Philadelphia debate is where her numbers started dropping and his began to skyrocket.

I think at this point, she's going to try just about anything to pick up votes.
she knows it is all about momentum at this oiitn and positive coverage...she wont have a win for over a month and obama will constantly be on the front page with victories... she knows the only way to stay on the TV and fresh in minds is debates... otherwise NO ONE is tuning in to her her speak
I heard that Obama replied "we've had 17 debates (or something like that), I don't see a need for any more at this point".
I've also heard news commentators say that the more confident candidate usually will decline debates.
It would be smart of Obama to not debate her more than he has already agreed to.
She does very well in debates, that is one of her strengths. And while Obama has the momentum, Clinton has nothing to lose by debating.
Right now, the only stories about her on the news are of her getting trounced by Obama, people quitting her campaign, and some money troubles. A debate with a couple good soundbytes by her would help to stop the bleeding.
Also, on the other side, am I the only one who believes that having Huckabee still around is helping McCain? Without the talk about Huckabee challenging, McCain would be out of the news for weeks, while Hilary and Obama get all of the attention.

That's why she did so well on Super Tuesday. She had the name power to do well in states, where he is still fresh that his name won't carry him alone. If Super Tuesday were last night, I think we would have seen a different story. Obama needs time to win people over, which he usually does, but on Super Tuesday there wasn't enough time for two dozen states.

There's no point to it. Its actually been 18 debates they've had and they are scheduled for a 2 more in the next couple weeks. Why debate every freaking day, and go over the same stuff? So she can sit there and say that a woman in the white house would equal big change? Please. She wants more debates because its free publicity for a sinking campaign with little money. Obama is in the driver's seat right now. He's doing things HIS way and its paying off. She is going to start going VERY dirty. Watch and see. Its already starting. i think it will backfire. i'm certainly not counting her out as its looking more and more like the nomination is coming down to cigar smoke and courts, but if things continue on the same course they are now, i'm hopeful that the wicked witch will soon be dead.
I agree with you completely.
I had an idea last night. I wonder...is someone, at some point going to say "if Hilary can't run her own campaign with success, how can we expect to run this country successfully?" Shes had the campaign manager step down and the assistant/deputy yesterday. Hanging all her hopes on a handfull of states, instead of the overall win. Granted, I understand why she is doing all the changes, she's getting killed out there!
good point
Yeah, much like Giuliani, if she wins Texas and Ohio by large margins, she'll look like a genius and the establishment will be back to eating bon bons out of her asscrack, but if she loses even one of those states, she may be in big trouble. One thing i know for certain is that this thing is going to get a lot uglier before it gets any prettier. i honestly think the current situation plays into Obama's favor. The wheels of the clinton express, whereas they havn't fallen off yet, they definitely have some loose lugs. cunton doesn't conduct herself very well under these situations. Look for her to start putting her foot in her mouth.

Tim Russert said this morning that she has to win all the remaining states by 55% or more in order to be successful.
Not sure how that will shake down if she wins Texas and Ohio by a large margin, and then flunks all the others.
I almost hate to listen to people like Russert because it gives me too much to think about when they chime in with statistics and such.

oh you know she will
debates are free air time too, and she doesn't have a lot of money. they don't have to pay for tv time. that 5 million she loaned herself last week is disappearing already, and obama keeps raking it in.

"See you in Texas"
Sounds like "See you in Florida" that strategy sure worked out...
At some point I can see her suing to get the Florida and Michigan delegates counted.

Oh, you can bet on that.
and the democratic party will not allow the super delegates tpo decide this race either...
they are not going to commit suicide, cause civil war in the party, and jeopardize the 2008 election... they are not that stupid... obama will be the nominee if he gets the most delegates...
they will not commit political suicide to please hillary clinton... the party see's the obama movement as the direction of the party right now, and they are going tohitch their wagon to his bandwagon as well... they know who is the better candidate
Al Sharpton has already said he will not let any of those delegates "seat" unless there is a new election process for each state. He said he has remained neutral so he can be "neutral" when Hillary pulls this stunt... I though that was amusing... Al is going to raise hell
Yeah, I don't see it happening, but I'm dreading how much mudslinging and dirty crap the Clinton's will pull to try to get their way. It could either make this whole party look stupid, or just make her look like a sore loser.
