US-NATO Massacre of Afghan Children in Helmand Province Afghanistan
20 min 25 sec - Jan 19, 2008

Afghan civilians--27 children were massacred by the US jets and helicopters/AC130 Gunship in Helmand Afghanistan. The people there were shocked to see gunners from the airplanes were targeting fleeing children. The elders in the village asked, "can't the Americans tell the difference between armed fighters and little children running to safety?" This is the type of "democracy" and "reconstruction" the US and her NATO allies--UK, Canada, Dutch, Australians and others---practice in Afghanistan.

Warning: The video shows dead Afghan children!

WATERTOWN, NY - "I was messed up in the head. It was okay for me. I laughed afterwards. We all did. It's just the way things go."

Iraq war veteran Jon Turner said it was almost expected of him to pull the trigger on people who didn't need to die. So he did.

"It was my decision," Turner said. "I made it. Now I have to live with the fact I see someone's eyes screaming at me after I shot them."

But Turner says it wasn't his choice to be encouraged to do it from higher ranking officers. He and three other veterans speaking out Saturday at the Different Drummer Cafe in Watertown said committing war crimes is not only the way things go, but it's unofficial policy.

"The killing of innocent civilians is policy," veteran Mike Blake said. "It's unit policy and it's Army policy. It's not official policy, but it's what's happens on the ground everyday. It's what unit commanders individually encourage."

The group, part of the national organization called Iraq Veterans Against War are planning an event to be held in Washington, D.C. this coming March called "Winter Soldier" that will have veterans all speaking about war crimes they committed or witnessed during their tours of duty.

"These decisions are coming from the top down," veteran Matt Howard said. "The tactics that we use. The policies that the military engages will create situations, create dynamics, create, ultimately, atrocity."

IVAW hopes to have 100 veterans speak at the event. Once it ends, they'll document the testimony and package it for Congress.

IVAW says it expects a number of veterans from Fort Drum to be at the event and it is hoping to get more veterans to attend and speak at the event and will help pay for any active duty soldier who wants to go and listen.

  • Not surprising when there is no clear idea of who the enemy really is.

    What a ridiculous situation.

in other recent news... the MIC is pumping out out as much war product as they can get away with into Pakistan, Israel, and Saudi Arabia.

"headlong into planned catastrophe" should be the new US foreign policy slogan.
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

Convenient way to excuse the massacre of civilians by our own troops. Just bring out the 'human shield' argument. The above article mentions that fleeing children were targeted. How then are they human shields?

most Americans would be surprised if they knew how many gays and lesbians are serving the military, I think it's the same with evangelicals in leadership positions, a lot of the cadets at the military academies are evangelicals, and there have been documented and a documentary about how non-evangelicals at the military academies are pushed hard to become evangelicals. I bring this up because the sole owner of Blackwater is an evangelical, and comes from one of the most powerful evangelical families and has, like some cadet's in our military academies, stated we are at the start of the new crusades...which is a sick thought in this day and age.

what over reason, when you are suppose to be winning hearts and minds, would there be an unofficial policy like stated?

anyway, I'm a 12 yr army vet, and know all to well what truly goes on, remember, members of our military are from all walks of life, the best and worst our country has to offer, and to just serve in our military doesn't change the bad in all, and creates bad in those that generally weren't that way.

or, the so called unofficial policy is just a cop out by three soldiers being prosecuted.
"Music, for me, was fucking heroin." eV (nothing Ed has said is more true for me personally than this quote)

how can anyone really make a judgement call ever on a story like this?

None of us have any idea what was really going on in the situation all we have is the story and who really knows what the true facts are anymore.

No rational person will ever think it's a good thing that innocent people minding thier own business get murdered.

Naturally there are people in the military from all walks some (the vast majority) are great nice and humanistic and some are scumsucking douchebags who might enjoy murdering children....but there should be enough checks and balances not to mention thinking people around to prevent an event that appears this horrific from happening.

I have no idea why but I can bet there is a reason an airstrike was called in and it wasn't because there was a nice happy village with lots of children that needed to be murdered.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

dude ... you guys invaded panama and massacred 3,000 civilians - the concept that there is some checks and balances is a myth ... there is a reason why the US does not participate in many new international treaties ...

sure, there is a possibility that there could be a mistake but to think this can't happen is just ignoring history ...
