I think the boots sound great...but why is the bass so freaking high? Plus, why does it sound great on my computer but then in my car they sound like crap? Not enough tremble behind that bass is my opinion

I agree- they are very bassy and the drums overshadow the guitars at times- but still alot better than 2000 and even 2005

I like it! I thought the bass was too low on the 06 boots.

I have some gripes with the sound of the boots in general, in particular the mixing of the crowd noise and guitars.

Matt should go back to the BLACK DRUM KIT FROM 2000. Got a brilliant thuddy sound > reminds me of Soundgarden.

    fuck no.

    See this is the problem.

Matt's new drum kit sounds BAD ASS LIVE.

Maybe it doesn't make it through on the recordings as much,
but the live sound of those drums (imho) blew away any kit he has used in the past.

As for the Bass vs. Treble problem,
Perhaps take a suggestion from Kurt a'la In Utero:
suggested tone settings from In Utero liner notes

    Seriously.
Be thankful that someone was smart enough to include the bass and drum frequencies prominently on the recordings. Thats great, cause you couldn't hear jeff for shit live at the shows (8 shows, and i never heard the bass) ...

IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, JUST TURN THE BASS DOWN.

You can always take away by adjusting the frequency DOWN,
but YOU CAN NEVER ADD FREQUENCY THAT IS NOT MIXED IN TO BEGIN WITH.
At least it is there for those of us that do want to hear it.

    :D
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

haven't heard them yet but reviews seem pretty 50/50 .. i'm easy though

    i think 2003 - 2006 was fantastic..

2000 SUCKED .. they're soooo quiet .. i'll keep the same volume for a say, 03 boot for an 00 boot, and the sound decreases so much for the 00 boot.

Exactly! 2003 actually gave us boots we could blast! Much more depth and range!

Just recieved Roo in the mail today. I haven't listened to it yet. But I have a feeling I won't be crying or making an issue of the sound quality. I will listen to it on my way to work in the morning. I am kind of bummed out after reading all the posts for the last week or so. Is everyone glad that they have an opportunity to hear the shows? This band does so much for us yet some always have to trash what they give us.

Of course we're happy that they put out shows... But I have the right to comment about how something I paid for, right?

I guess I was just hoping to see a better response or something more positive from the club.

  • I'm pretty pleased with the boots, I've downloaded four of them so far. I agree with comments concerning the bass being a bit too loud, but that doesn't bother me too much. I was hoping the crowd noise would be a bit louder though, but I suppose that ruins the whole concept of recording the band.

It just seems that the crowd drowned out the band at some of the shows. DC was pretty intense crowd-wise and I was hoping that would have transferred to the boot.
