wow!!! he committed suicide whilst others watched... thats pretty weird !!!
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

i must stress he didnt actually commit suicide using the webcam as a form of battering implement.. i meant he used it to film his death.... the former would be funnier though.

Hmmm.....perhaps!! As long as I knew he didn't really die! :o

Phew!! Well that's a small relief I guess.

How very sad. :( Would have been hideous to actually be on the chat site watching. I wonder if people actually realized what he had done?

So anyway, I found an article about this poor man in today's paper. :(

Apparently he was a 42yo father of two, with 12 year old twins who had been suffering severe depression. He had been badly injured in a car accident last year and had recently also suffered the loss of his father.

I just think this whole story is so very, very sad. And my deepest sympathies go out to his children and his family.

I would just like to add that it is so important that we learn from this tragic event. In our little PJ community we can remember to be kinder to each other, even in the heat of debate and we can certainly all be on the look out for the signs of depression and suicidal tendencies in the people around us. I would like to include the number for Lifeline here in Australia which is 131 114 for anyone needing help with personal issues.
I hope that others will post the numbers for their respective countries' mental health support services.

Please jammers look out for each other.

According to the BBC some people were actually encouraging him to do it, whilst others dialled 999. There are some very sick people in this world to encourage someone to do such a thing, let alone live on the net :(
  • Here's a screen cap of someone who chatting with him at the time including the chat comments

warning shows him hanging is you're squeamish

Yes, I did read that too Hippyvik. I can't imagine what they must have been thinking. I can only assume that they thought it was staged or something. And if not then clearly some members of the human race have sunk to an all time low. I guess I was just thinking how sad it was and hoping desperately to make something good come out of it. That if we could somehow all remember to be kinder to each other because of this incident that he would not have died in vain. I don't know if that even makes sense. I have to say I just find this sooo very, very sad. For him, his family, those who watched and tried to help, those who watched and did nothing and those who watched and encouraged him to do it. It's sad for all of us too. This is not something that should ever have happened. Ever.

Yeah I agree Jeanie. I can't imagine why anyone would knowingly encourage such a thing, these are truly sad times that we live in

I've been encouraged to commit suicide by several PJ pit members.
