finally that racist piece of shit scum finds out that people aren't buying his hateful polemic anymore. I don't even care if Sarkozy gets in now that the french have relegated the FN to fourth.

Yep. At least the French showed some motivation (this time around).

Now we have to convince the British to vote at the coming local elections, or the BNP will make gains. The situation reminds me of Yeats's lines from "The Second Coming":

The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

Le Pen himself will never be a threat as far as government is concerned
I would worry more about how Sarkozy is wooing the far-right electorate.

Not that Ségolène is a better deal.

It is. I've run book clubs on that one. On a side note, I got around to reading "No Longer at Ease" recently. It's an interesting follow-up.

Le Pen supporters will find Sarkozy most appealing... He is rehashing Le Pen's pet ideologies and making them more palatable to the general public.....

But at least the French did vote en masse this time....

yeah but for all of sarkozy being your typical sleazy right wing type, he isn't going to go as far as Le Pen would like so its best that he takes the votes rather than le FN.

i don't know if i like either in the run-off ... i lean way left but i'm afraid Royal is too inexperienced and stubborn to govern properly which usually results in a post-election dramatic shift to the right ...

Sarkozy kinda scares me. Power hungry and right wing usually don't equal something good.
