While I am not surprised that a somewhat famous liberal's racist comments go unposted on this message board (gee, double standard?), I can understand because the guy obviously just made a stupid off the cuff joke and these idiots want to crucify him for it. Ridiculous, just ridiculous. Sharpton needs to have his vocal cords ripped out. I'm sure he's never made a racist remark in any of his idiotic rants.

Don Imus isn't a liberal, but I agree that there is perhaps more furor over his remarks than there ought to be. But you can't deny that what he was was offensive and retarded.

    Isn't Imus a conservative?

Yea I heard what he said. And really who gives a shit it's Don Imus.
  • how is that any different than a black comedian on cable tv making white jokes. imus is an entertainer right? i have never seen any white comedian on national television make any black jokes or do anything like i've seen the black comedians do. i'm not offended by it at all and i love black comedy i think they are by far the funniest comedians of all time. but why always so much racial drama over such nonsense a white person might say?

Imus' comment was stupid and uncalled for. He apologized and his employer has taken disciplinary action against him. I think that this story should be put to bed, but you have people like Sharpton who will use this to fuel their own agenda. And Imus is far from a liberal so nice job trying to turn someone's stupid comment intp a partisan bashing thread.

I can't help but wonder why anyone cares? Why is this an actual news story? Someone staying something stupid is news now?

When the PC police jump on Rosie's constant comments..like her making fun of how Asian people talk..then I won't cry hypocrisy.

A cocaine dealer, Mr Sharpton...made this a story. Even though it's not one.

Someone made racist comments about blacks.

Welcome to the Double Standard thread.

I don't watch the View, but I heard Rosie's Asian talk, on the much maligned MSM no less. So there certainly hasn't been any media blackout about it.

However, there's no Asian equivalent of Al Sharpton, so there's no one to harp on it as a pet project on our commercial airwaves. That's not hypocrisy; that's the market.

Don Imus is a morning talk radio host. Here in NYC he is on WFAN 660 AM and on MSNBC. After the Rutgers women basketball team lost to Tennessee he called then nappy-headed hos. Needless to say that 8 out of the 10 players in black.

You might want to keep it quiet in case Sharpton is lurking on this board.

It was a dumb thing to say and it was probably intended as a joke that didn't come out the right way. He apologized and the whole issue should be put to bed, but you have Rev. Al "Twana Brawley" Sharpton sticking his big greasy head into the thick of things making it a bigger deal than it should be.

You see, I really don't comprehend anyone getting upset over what he said.

But, if one is going to get insulted/appalled/upset over what he said; then why aren't the same people who become appalled at this, appalled at Mencia, Chappelle, Lopez, Martin Lawrence, Def Comedy Jam, Night At The Apollo......the list goes on endlessly.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I think people should get "appalled" or "upset" over any of this stuff, but I'm just looking for consistency.

Ultimately this is nothing but a bullsh*t double-standard by desperately overly-sensitive, overly-PC people.

He should be able to say what ever he damn well pleases.

Certainly what he said is mild compared to some of the things said by other non-white comedians and talk show guys/gals. Not that I think anyone should get upset over what they say, either.

If someone doesn't like it, then tune out and don't listen. Turn the dial. Plain and simple.
  • NMyTreeNMyTree Posts: 2,374
As for Sharpton and Jackson, they're just parasites who sink their fangs into any opportunity (white guy's/gal's ass), when ever they percieve (through their racist eyes) there to be a "racists" host. Nothing more than two parasites seeking a host for venom.
  • He called the Tennessee team "cute" and they have more black players than Rutgers. Bottom line here, Rev. Al has a sickness and the only cure is more spotlight.

But even more hilarious is the 'Imus is a liberal' comment. Wise up already.

There is definetly a double standard. People do have the right to say what ever they want but along with that freedom comes the consequences of your words. If the women on the Rutgers team where offended by his comments than that is their right too as well. Imus doesn't have to apologize to anyone but if he feels he has to than it should be to the women on the team, not Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, or the entire black community. This doesn't simply refer to black people either. Look at Mel Gibson, Tim Hardaway. Both of them made off color comments about Jews and Gays.

I think the double standard exists because for a long time these minority groups (Jews, Latinos, gays, women, and blacks) where oppressed by the majority White Christian Males. This is not the case anymore but anytime a White Christian Male does say something off color it is a reminder of that oppression ( I don't agree with it but I believe that that is the reasoning).

I have also seen white comedians who rip into everyone and no one says anything about it, ever catch Lisa Lampinelle's routine.

oh I don't think most people are appalled. People currently in media make thier careers out of overblowing the insignificant.

Is anyone really suprised to see Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton in the mix again? These guys are racial ambulance chasers simply happy to get the press.

Yes it's a non story, ultimately it's irrelavant....oh well at least it's timely which is more than I can say for the AN Smith story.

Don Imus is a biggot, but hey, that's pretty common these days, so are Sharpton and Jackson.

precisely. only im not joking when i say that... well, the second half anyway. i dont know enough to comment on their looks. but watching women play basketball is about as thrilling as watching a junior high cyo league game.

LOL. I agree with you on the thrill level of women's basketball, but I must say basketball in general is pretty boring to me.

Don Imus is a shock jock. He makes offensive comments. That's his job. Don't like it? Neither do I. But if you're going to crucify a shock jock every time (s)he offends a group of people, you better start building a lot of crosses.

I personally find the media attn in regards to the backlash more offensive than the original comments, as offensive as they were.

It was a stupid, insensitive, moronic thing to say.

That being said, I find it incredibly hypocritical for those who are protesting against him and calling for him to be fired, to not protest ANYONE - rappers, comedians, etc - who make similar comments toward any race or type of person.

bootlegger, get a clue before you post, Imus is a registered Republican.

As for the comments, I enjoy Imus' show because he gets great guests, but he did cross a line here mainly because he attacked 18-22 yr old kids, who don't deserve to be beat up in the public spotlight. A suspension is appropriate, but that is it.

The only issue that I have is that he called them "hos". The nappy headed part? c'mon... would you feel better if he called them curly headed?

Calling young women that you don't know hos is a little offensive, but I don't get the uproar from the idiots like Sharpton.

I think Imus is annoying, and really not at all funny, so I typically don't watch or listen to him. If you are offended by him, then don't listen to him.

I'm just tired of "racist" language that some people use that others aren't allowed to.

and nice try with the liberal comment bootlegger

how many people knew what he said before the media picked this story up? So thanks to the media we now have everyone in the country talking about it when before there prob wasn't nearly the exposure. It was stupid to say, no doubt.
