"I am going to encourage you to have sex and encourage you to use drugs appropriately,"

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=55800

So this is what kids are forced to learn in school these days. Why are convocations like this necessary? Encouraging kids to do drugs? The guy was even encouraging people not to use condoms. I'd hope teenagers are smart enough to think for themselves, but why is this convocation even necessary? Maybe this is why America's grades aren't good, they are spending too much time being fed this shit.

I know some of you hippies will agree with this stuff, which scares the hell out of me.

Edit: If you want to have these convocations in college, fine. College students can choose to listen if they want to or not. But to FORCE students to listen to this bullshit is insane. This article even states that students were required to sign confidentiality statements about one convocation about homosexuality and told not to mention anything to their parents. If you can't go to high school and come home and tell your parents what went on, than there is something wrong. This is an AGENDA, and not education. It is very, very clear. This is what people refer to as "the liberal agenda."

I am pretty sure that site has its own agenda and therefore a skewed opinion. I got the impression perhaps that they were hoping to reach out to children who perhaps might be struggling with their sexuality and felt like they had nobody to talk to. I guess it is all perspective.

Did I miss the part where he encouraged them not to practice safe sex? I can't imagine anyone would get up and say that??? Of course, I can't believe a lot of the crap that goes on now..

I myself am a fan of both sex and drugs(well the drugs not so much now that I am an older) :p .. of course, I am not a teenager but even as one I was aware that both sex and drugs were readily available.. well ok maybe not sex :o:p . So why not talk to them.. educate them.

Seriously that one quote from the unidentified male seemed to be all over the place?? Was it about E, masturbation or same sex expermenting??? O about all of them combined.. maybe I am too tired and not understanding all that well :o What next masturbation makes you blind? ... actually I couldn't read the rest of the article.. haha

I guess I am one of those hippies that scare you... good thing I am in Canada.

That site actually kind of scared me...

Conference leaders issued a statement, signed by conference director Jim Palmer and others, saying the panel members talked "candidly and sensibly to the high school audience, providing cautionary information about alcohol consumption, drugs, sexual issues and teens."

    what craziness, eh?

Its pretty funny how the same people that call out people as wacko's for questioning they're government then come out with stupidity like this.

    Is this a conspiracy theory?

well it would be pretty funny if it wasnt so ugly and sinister.

That's a pretty dumbass thing to say to highschool kids. My main problem is, that regardless of your stance on the dangers (or lack of) of drug use, it is illegal and it's highly irresponsible to encourage teenageers to break the law.

That not necessarily irresponsible. I know here an institute for drug prevention edits "how to use" leaflets on most drugs. They provide information on how to use with minimal dangers the most common drugs as well as other recommendations (like not driving after doing mushrooms!).
Their logic is that since they can't stop teens from doing drugs they might as well help limit deaths & injuries due to drug use.

    A long and interesting read:

    http://piboulder.wordpress.com/2007/05/26/confusing-message-from-boulder-high-on-sex-and-drugs/

He shouldn't encourage people to use drugs, but he has a point though, if people are going to do it, they should make sure they do it appropriately.

haha.. my sister thinks I am a hippy. Clearly she doesn't know any actual real hippies  :p

Craziness indeed in giving kids sensible advice. I am not advocating that kids should be using drugs etc as they do have the dangers and downsides but I think that educating them and making them aware might help out and may actually discourage some teens from trying drugs. I guess that is crazy. I guess what I am trying to say is I agree with what Kann said ;)

And what was with that site? I kept waiting for the banner to drop down and say "REPENT. The end is near"

So people think it is okay to have a mandatory assembly for all students; public school keep in mind...to have an assembly telling 14-18 year olds that it is okay to do drugs (well responsibly) have unprotected sex (responsibly) and to expirement in same sex relationships. What the hell is wrong with people? Have you ever known drug use to be responsible and I understand the argument but honestly; drugs kill people everyday. Sex well let's see aside from having a child at the ripe ol age of 15 there is also std's to worry about I mean really. Not to mention the one speaker was talking about the use of excstacy in physcological treatments...went on to say if "I had some with me I would do it with someone." There was nothing indirect about this at all...I hope if you are a parent in Boulder demand the firing of everyone involved..for your children's sake.

    Absolutely right!

    lets just cover anything that doesnt involve singing the national anthem, turning a profit, or killing foreigners (or each other), or killing while singing the national anthem AND turning a profit, under a big blanket;
Give it a resounding NO THATS EVIL whenever its mentioned, and it will all surely go away.

no-one lectured me on any of this shit in school, i still found it, and found it a lot, and enjoyed it mostly, except for the "dirty bombs" i dropped now and then. maybe had someone had the balls to tell me how it actually was i could have avoided some of them bad'uns.

But then no-one made us sing any anthems every morning or stick a flag in our faces every 3 seconds, so maybe we werent as impressionable as yank kids in which case, maybe the black out is the best way.
