I really really hope not......however there is a very small Canadian party that had been warning of this the entire year.....

U.S. legislator: Bush wants a N. American union

By BETH GORHAM

WASHINGTON (CP) - A U.S. legislator who backs tough anti-immigrant measures and more security at the Canada-U.S. border is warning Americans that President George W. Bush is plotting to integrate the continent.

And he says Prime Minister Stephen Harper "buys into it." Colorado Republican Tom Tancredo, revered by some U.S. conservatives for his efforts to staunch the flow of illegal immigrants from Mexico, said this week that Bush is a dangerous internationalist.

"He is going to do what he can to create a place where the idea of America is just that, it's an idea. It's not an actual place defined by borders. I mean this is where the guy is really going," he told WorldNetDaily, a controversial conservative website.

"I know this is dramatic, or maybe somebody would say overly dramatic. But I'm telling you that everything I see leads me to believe that this whole idea of the North American union, it's not something that's just written about by right-wing fringe kooks," said Tancredo, who is considering a run at the presidency.

"It is something in the head of the president of the United States, the president of Mexico, I think the prime minister of Canada buys into it . . ."

Tancredo followed up with an interview on the conservative Fox News network, where he said the borders will lose all their significance, serving merely as "speed bumps" in the flow of goods, services and people.

In October, Tancredo demanded the United States suspend work on the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) signed last year by Canada, Mexico and The United States until Congress examines its goals and agreements, which include standardizing regulations and dismantling other barriers to trade.

The deal to collaborate on a wide range of trade and security issues is part of a larger plot to merge the countries in a European Union-like arrangement using a common currency, he said, with no oversight from legislators.

The congressman, who wrote a book on the border security issue called "In Mortal Danger," is one of four members of Congress who've signed a resolution opposed to a union or a free trade "superhighway system."

They're not the only ones worried about closer ties between the three countries.

A coalition of American conservatives is organizing a grassroots effort to make it an issue in the 2008 presidential race and vow to campaign against any candidate, Republican or Democrat, who won't side with them.

The movement was spearheaded in October by Howard Phillips, chairman of the public policy group Conservative Caucus, anti-feminist activist Phyllis Schlafly and author Jerome Corsi.

The group is calling for a congressional investigation into the SPP and full disclosure of all documents when the new Congress run by Democrats begins in January. They're getting support from the Minuteman Project that monitors the borders to deter illegal crossings, a group Bush has called vigilantes.

Supporters of the anti-union stand point out that a prominent three-country task force backed by Canada's business elite has promoted an elaborate vision of a common economy and security perimeter.

The plan, released last year, drew fire from some Canadians who saw it as a dangerous surrender of sovereignty designed to benefit big business.

Tancredo, who has often talked about the "porous" Canada-U.S. border, stirred up controversy last year when he mused on a Florida radio show that America could destroy Islamic holy sites like Mecca if there's another terrorist attack on U.S. soil.

While beloved by many right-wingers and immigration hawks, Tancredo was recently labelled one of the 10 worst congressmen by Rolling Stone magazine.

The publication noted he wants to deport every undocumented worker in the United States, a proposal that would cost at least US$200 billion, and has called for halting all immigration, legal or otherwise.

I always used to check in a day before I flew to Canada. This year they told me I couldn't because it wasn't possible to check in early for the US anymore for security reasons. When I asked them if they were aware that Toronto wasn't part of the USA, I was told that the US had declared Canada part of US airspace and if Austrian Airlines didn't comply, they weren't allowed to land anywhere in the US anymore.
Harper scares me. Somehow I guess the movie H2O isn't far fetched. Good movie btw, scary though.

And approve a $700 million fence?

  • I always wanted a beach house in Mexico. Now I don't have to change citizenship.
  • But why would Canada wish to become part of the U.S? If I were Canada I would much rather keep my borders the way they are. Although life would be much improved for the average Mexcian if this were to come true.

It actually doesn't make any sense to me but nothing Bush has done or wants does.

They had to get a supervisor and his supervisor because I refused to believe that Canada was now suddenly US airspace. The first one had the guts to tell me it had always been this way. I showed him all the Canada immigration stamps I had in my passport and told him not to insult the intelligence of someone who checked in the day before for the last 8 years.
I don't even know if the Harper-bot and his minions have anything to do with it or if it's just blackmail from the US airport authorities. Anyways, it sucks big time and it's worrying me.

    Tis an interesting idea....

  • North American Union
    Current mood: fed up

The purpose of this post is because I was wondering who here are aware of the proposed North American Union?

Lou Dobbs is the only guy who reported it on mainstream news but those videos were pulled by CNN (these have been reloaded by concerned citizens)

    http://www.youtube.com/v/ensmPJm5B5A

    http://www.youtube.com/v/QAeEc23_7Ig

The idea was cooked up by the CFR. You can get the document here.
    http://www.cfr.org/publication/8102/

CFR Towards a North American Community (I can't link to the pdf document but you can get the english version right under the pic.)

And of course our politicians went along with it. http://www.spp.gov.

They have also created a North American Investment Fund
From what I deduce, this is a way to pump money into mexicos economy from the US taxpayer. I have to ask why? That combined with providing for "the flow of goods and PEOPLE" as proposed by the CFR ("people" meaning illegals to compete for our job) and don't forget all the tax breaks our government is giving to companies that sell out and go over seas. This is all done to get us on one currency. Check out the author of the CFR document Robert A Pastors book Toward a North American Community: Lessons from the Old World for the New
Read through the book review. Do you see the part about "a unified currency"?

I'm sure you guys know about the REAL ID act so I won't go into that but I would also like to bring up the site http://www.nascocorridor.com This highway is a very big deal. Meaning more "free" trade agreements, American property being taken away by Immenent Domain, etc.

You've been able to clear US Customs in Canadian airport for years. It makes travelling much easier and I'm all for it. It was under Liberal leadership that this started and is one of the few good things the Liberals did. Please think before making pointless accusations against Harper, it only displays ignorance.

Hahaha, somehow I don't see this ever happening in the Mexico-US border, at least not in the Mexico -> US direction... maybe in the next century.

  • And this is coming from the same people that laught at the European Union? Well, the border issue would be hilarious if this union were established. Another international body that the US can manipulate and use for its own benefits, like the UN I guess.
  • Most here in CO seem to agree with Tancredo, hell we all just elected him in a landslide...see here in CO it's pretty much mexico anyway. Denver is a sanctuary city where the INS, ICE and other municipalties don't have the authority to deport. If you cant beat em, join em...wtf?

I didn't realize that being able to clear US Customs here and Toronto being considered US airspace amounted to the same thing ??? My "stupid Harper" was aimed at just my general attitude towards him and I didn't mean to imply that this was a move made my his government and that was wrong on my part. Please think before making pointless accusations against who is the ignorant one here.
  • I would be adamantly against this, to be honest I want nothing to do with the USA. Like you as friends and neighbours but have no desire to be "integrated" and I hope most Americans feel that way as well.

And Harper has been linked to this proposal. He is a sell-out IMHO and it will be nice to wave good-bye to him next election.

If you lived in Europe would you have been against joing the E.U.?

I think it's a bad idea for Canada only because of the lack of participating countries and too much economic power would be held by one country. It also seems superfluous given the free-trade agreements.

I can't figure out why South America hasn't created this type of union yet.
