There's a case in the UK at the mo about Baby P who was abused by his mother, her boyfriend and their lodger for months. The court forbids details being revealed about them. We've seen this plenty of times... the Jamie Bulger killers, Maxine Carr, etc.

I'm not so sure it's the right thing... that these people get a fresh new start in life... after taking, destroying or helping to destroy several lives... just doesn't seem right to me. What do ya think?

I don't care. I don't see it as wrong or right.

you live in the UK and this is a UK story and you still use a fucking irish link

they are 'protected' for lack of a better word as their crimes are the ones that provoke most emotion.. child killers... they have their identity hidden for fear of reprisal... whilst i dont agree with that (cos i can imagine i'd want revenge if someone harmed my kids) i can SEE why they do it...
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

I honestly don't know what to think Helen. The two boys that murdered Jamie Bulger were only ten themselves i think? I don't know much about the case, but clearly something was very wrong for them to have done that. Where do you draw the line? Why should they be treated differently to any other person who has a criminal history. Those people have to live with it for the rest of their lives and accept responsibility for the consequences of their actions. I don't think they should have been given anonymity and new identities. Perhaps the people in power that made those decisions, can have them living in their neigborhood? I doubt that would go down very well.

Oh I can SEE why they do it... I just think it's obviously NOT what they deserve. A new life, a new identity, presumably everything they need to get them started off. I think it should be offered to THEIR FAMILIES (cos I always feel for them too in cases like that) but they should have to live with their crimes.

Agreed... I guess it's a tough one when those two are brought into it since they WERE just kids... even though its still unimaginable... but maybe not the best example. BUT these more recent people who tortured a baby to death?????? no fucking way should they be given any kind of anonymity.

While I'm not so sure that government resources should be used to fund these peoples new lives, judging by the amount of 'hang the bastards' facebook groups I've been 'invited' to join this week I know EXACTLY why their identities are hidden.

Maybe these people don't deserve a life, but it's not my place to say. We have a justice system in this country that doesn't include capital punishment, and I like it that way.

Lynch mobs and vigilantes aren't right either. The whole reason judges will do this is to prevent more violence. The damage has been done. The kid isn't gonna come back to life if everyone knows the identity of his killers.

I don't see how these people will get a "fresh new start" seeing that they've been convicted of such a crime. Their punishment should come from the courts, not the streets.
