The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has not found conclusive evidence that Iran is developing nuclear weapons, a US magazine has reported.

Veteran investigative reporter Seymour Hersh, writing in The New Yorker, cites a secret CIA report based on intelligence such as satellite images.

Correspondents say the alleged document appears to challenge Washington's views regarding Iranian nuclear intentions.

ok.. so, now that the iranian nuke threat is shown to be a lie (as was the iraqi nuke threat), how long will it take for the "spreading democracy" excuse to come out?

please people.. don't fall for the same lies again..

With regard to American foreign relations, I believe that the credibility is significantly impaired at this point. the USA will have a hard time selling anything to the rest of the world as justification for an invasion of Iran...short of a blatant act of aggression from the Iranian military.

its not a problem, we will just make up evidence like we did with iraq.

  • First of all, there's no proof that Iran is developing nuclear technology for use in bombs. And there's also no proof that this CIA report actually exists, is that right?

And think about the situation realistically. You have someone who says a report exists that shows no conclusive evidence that Iran has developed weapons grade nuclear technology. That means next to nothing to me. There's no way anyone in their right mind should read that article and think "well there's proof that Iran doesn't have nuclear weapons aspirations."

The fact is, Iran hid their nuclear development operations for 18 years. Now they've been told by the UN (supported by US, UK, and France) that if they stop their program to let the UN confirm their aspirations for nuclear energy, they'll get assistance in furthering their program. But Iran has refused. That to me is suspicious. And I think there's an obvious lesson that the US is teaching countries like Iran with the most recent invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq...if you DON'T have a nuclear deterrent, you may get invaded. Iran has plenty of motive to develop nuclear weapons, and I do hope that the UN can get them to at least prove that their program is for peaceful means. So far, they are not cooperating.

They're not cooperating because of the wishy-washy non-commital of Russia. Russia is still kinda on Iran's side in all of this...probably because they want to be the ones to benefit from selling reactor technology. Russia needs money...badly.

fnd a way to get Russia to the table and back the UN, and Iran will be at a huge disadvantage.

Very true...Russia would be extremely opposed to sanctions against Iran. They would lose lots of money. But I think if it came down to that, the US, UK, and France would cut some kind of trade deal with Russia to compensate them. That's how it usually works. And I think if Russian support is the only thing stopping Iran from cooperating, that deal would already be cut. But it's still hard to say at this point.

It's just like a game of poker.

Iran is going all-in against the chip leader (U.S.)

  • I think I'd like to visit Iran while its still in one piece. It sounds like an amazing and beautiful country. Don't know how much longer its going to stay that way though.

Too bad I now have Israeli stamps on both my passports. . . . I really hate politicians sometimes.

Actually what I've heard about Tehran doesn't sound very appealing, but the mountains and rural areas sound awesome, and there are some really spectacular mosques to see, not mention thousands of years worth of historical sites. I'd love to experience the Persian version of Islamic culture too, and see how it compares to Arab culture.
