GOP scumbags are making "robo-calls" to voters, posing as democrat scumbags, in an effort to annoy people into abandoning the dems.

sounds pretty desperate to me.

Sounds like a typical GOP tactic.

    That'd be a criminal act...no?

Impersonating someone else over the phone.....is a crime, isn't it?

By the way... democrat scumbags is redundant. ;)

read the articles... didn't see anything about impersonating anyone. Just "stay on the line for an important message about... ".

the GOP is making the calls and trying to trick people into thinking they are coming from the democratic candidates. that's impersonation, and it's illegal.

    "It's not us!"

Only three recorded calls have been made on behalf of Murphy's campaign, including one from Gov. Rendell, which were sponsored by the Democratic State Committee.

The rest? A "dirty trick" by the Republicans, said communications director Amy Bonitatibus.

The calls, which begin by offering "important information about Lois Murphy," are designed to mislead voters into thinking the message is from her.

    ...

"We've got a ton of complaints, starting about two weeks ago," Bonitatibus said.

"Some of our biggest supporters have said, 'If you call me again, I'm not voting for Lois.'

    ...

"This is not us. We're sorry. We're not making these calls."

The culprit in this race is the National Republican Congressional Committee, an organization that's used such scurrilous campaign tactics this season that it has been disavowed in some instances by the candidates it is supporting.

I still don't see the trick or misrepresentation... If people listen they would know who the call is from and about.

My God, the phone calls! Just as I'd begin to drift off to sleep, the phone would ring and it would be YET ANOTHER DAMN COMPUTERIZED MESSAGE ABOUT LOIS MURPHY.
    Key word in there.. ABOUT.

    Hey! ;)

But yeah it is criminal - I was listening to a discussion of this on NPR today and what was pointed it was that while it is illegal, its happening to close to the election, that there's not much recourse before the elections to expose it. But at least its getting discussed.

Do they contain a disclaimer? Has anyone heard one of these aside from the person in this editorial?

ALL political calls made to my home are irritating and get deleted immediately. No phone call from some numb nut is going to convince me to vote one way or another. And if you are swayed by a random voice on the telephone... please, do America a favor and stay at home on Tuesday.

Just messing with ya numb nuts.

The phone calls are driving me crazy!!! I've quit answering my phone to callers whose Caller ID I do not recognize. LOL>>>My voice mail doesn't pick up until after 9 rings, I actually have had real people, not voice recordings, campaigning for local elctions, let it ring that many times to leave me a voice mail. It pisses me off. If I were sleeping, 9 times would wake me up...and piss me off more!!!!!!!
Ringing someones phone 9 times is rude, unless its an emergency, or someone I know who I've told to let it ring 9 time sot get my voice mail.
    Save room for dessert!
  • i have received 26 calls over the past 4 days, most of them repeat robo calls from one of the following:

    1. former MO governor john ashcroft (R)
    2. kit bond (R)- current MO senator
    3. roy blunt (R)- current MO senator and father of mo governor matt
    4. jim talent (R) incumbent senator running for re-election giving the vote for me spiel.
    5. various other groups asking about my views on the stem cell initiative that used certain terms that classify it as "legalizing human cloning" and "human egg trafficking", which was very slanted and tried to lead me into saying i was against it.

i have only had 8 phone calls from recorded messages asking me to vote for democrats:
    1. claire mccaskell running for talent's seat
    2 claire mccaskell's mom
    3. MO senator joan bray

i would say that the gop must know that i ama registered dem and have voted dem the past several elections and are trying to sway me. either way it is annoying and can be misleading from both parties in presenting their "facts".

    Same here...
16 calls between 8 A.M. last Friday and about noon on Saturday. Useless waste of reuseable recording space.
    ...
Has anyone heard anyone say, "I like these phone calls"...?
