  • More power to you if you enlist- but come on. These guys are signing up in the middle of a terrible war. All the kid had to do was read a newspaper or watch the news for 5 minutes to see that troops are being killed on a daily basis and soldiers are still going to Iraq.
The less you know, the more you believe.

Those must be the troops Kerry was referring to. ;)

While not even Kerry would imply that all of our soldiers are poor, dumb, uneducated young men, I would assume some are. Stupid people work in every vocation, including the armed forces. You just can't fix stupid. :(

i remember that the daily show had a segment about how the american armed forces had dropped their criteria/minimum standards to enlist. not saying that the troops are all stupid... but if you drop your standards there is a chance then a few can slip through the net

They have dropped them significantly in the army. The Army also paints a rosey picture of Army life in its commercials - which contributes to the decpetion. The army commercials should show actual battle scenes with soldiers being shot at - and say that we need your help.

But of course that would likely not yield any votes or soldiers.

Lets not blame the recruiters under pressure to get bodies - the problem stems from a much higher place.

EVerything lies. I remember watching previews for the upcoming nba season and they seemed to leave Ron Artest out of the highlights...interesting

That is a fact. Wish we had the courage to do something about it - because it is at the root of most of our problems. Ron Artest... well, he's got game, but hasn't accomplished much lately to expect to promote the NBA. You'll be sure to see his face again - whether for something good or bad. The Kings just aren't very significant this year... didn't bibby have double digit turnovers recently?
  • Gee, a recruiter lying?? Cmon this has gone on for ages. Where your ass been??

Obviously not in a military recruiting office. Come on, I mean we all know they lie about fancy jobs to be had and then they stick you in a shitty job after you sign. But to tell them the war is over, etc... is soooooo out there I thought it was interesting if not downright sad.
  • The sadder thing is people believe them.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

Very true. How the hell do you not know the war in Iraq is still ongoing? I'm scared just thinking they accept people believing this kind of crap. Or maybe those are the recruits they want because they will do and believe whatever they are told? I just dont know.

    lmao
Yet ABC News found one recruiter who even claimed if you didn't like the Army, you could just quit.

"It's called a 'Failure to Adapt' discharge," the recruiter said. "It's an entry-level discharge so it won't affect anything on your record. It'll just be like it never happened."
  • I agree with the poster who says everything lies. Most of the time job adverts say 'equal opportunities', for example, they're just covering themselves legally.

Recruiters have always lied... "So... you like jets? Did you see 'Top Gun'? You want to fly Fighters jets? Sure... you can fly... just sign here".
Next thing you know, you're poking a stick at a box on the side of the road between the Green Zone and the Baghdad Airport, hoping the shit ain't rigged to explode.
    ...
and during Viet Nam... "You want to make sure you are the best.. the best rifleman in your platoon... that way, you don't go to Viet Nam... you stay here at Fort Bragg and train the new draftees to be a good rifleman like yourself".
Next thing you know, you're jumping off a Huey into a stinking rice paddy while the total fuck up is still stateside cleaning toilets.
    ...
Recruiters lie... it's their job. It's you job to know they lie.

If these recruits believe the war is over, then they should not be allowed to join. They should be locked up in a mental institution for being out of touch with reality.
