Anyone seen this movie yet? I'm going to check it out tomorrow and I was wondering what religious or political overtones it might have. The link below shows a hilarious Saturdau Night Live trailer of the movie.

I think the main idea is that when one civilization teeters on its demise, another must grow from it.
It seems as though it will be a comparison for our civilization. America is heading toward its demise, perhaps? All I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

Is this the mel gibson movie? what's it about?"We have to change the concept of patriotism to one of “matriotism” — love of humanity that transcends war. A matriarch would never send her own children off to wars that kill other people’s children." Cindy Sheehan

It makes The Passion look like Mr. Rogers Neighborhood.
Very violent film.0 -
Without even seeing it, I already know what it will be like....a violent, wannabe epic about some guy who goes through a lot of hardship.
Go see Inland Empire instead.0 -

I'm gonna have to check it out eventually. The previews didn't do much for me, but the reviews have me intrigued.I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.0

I saw it last night and thought it was fantastic. It was gory, but to say it made The Passion look like Mr Rogers is a stertch. On par with the Bravehearts and what-not. It had a good, dramatic story, no shocking plot twists (and maybe a tad bit predictable), but all in all, it was well worth the price of admission. I was afraid it was going to be one of those three hour marathon movies, but it ran right around two hours. I'll buy the DVD.

What is the story though? there isn't that much information on IMDB and I'm interested because I like finding out about ancient cultures and civillisations and why they declined."We have to change the concept of patriotism to one of “matriotism” — love of humanity that transcends war. Basically, you are introduced to the hero and his village. A band of raiders comes and f-s up their village and takes a ton of prisoners. They go to the Mayan temple-place, where said hero escapes and runs from the original captors. Obviously, there are character issues/conflicts which make it interesting, I just don't want to give details as it sounds like no one else has seen it. The second half is a long chase scene through the jungle, basically. Should also mention that they don't speak a word of English. Strictly subtitles.

I wrote a thread about the Maya a while ago. I'm gonna bump it up and see where it goes.I want to point out that people who seem to have no power, whether working people, people of color, or women -- once they organize and protest and create movements -- have a voice no government can suppress. It sounds interesting. I think I'm going to have to see it when it comes out here, I'm interested in seeing what sort of stance someone like mel gibson would take on the whole situation."We have to change the concept of patriotism to one of “matriotism” — love of humanity that transcends war. A matriarch would never send her own children off to wars that kill other people’s children." Cindy Sheehan
