But when has a politician listened to what his voters wanted....less than more I would be willing to bet......

Well, in such a matter as going into an unjust war, British PM Harold Wilson refused to follow LBJ into Vietnam. He was listening to popular opinion. There was, therefore, a precedent, for Blair, of a British PM listening to the people in regard to a political issue of the utmost seriousness. Remember, the PM isn't a president. He has more accountability to his local consituents as a member of parliament, and to the country, as First Lord of the Treasury.

Although politicians often act in a dictatorial way, that doesn't ever make it acceptable in a democracy.

    Question is was he right?

From the current situation I believe not.....

I do not agree with Bush and his policies but sometimes I cannot fathom how some people get stupified that people will think like him....its not like it is unusual for two leaders to believe the same things.....are they right or wrong is the issue that should be examined.....

ya got a point there but still britain's under alot of strain cos of bliars doings i mean it's not a bad thing having the states to bk you up if shit hits the fan but he's to busy with usa n other shit to do a real job with his home land n it's in the shit. it wouldn't surprise me if someone did a real life v for vendetta. good luck i'd say!

Yeah I understand your frustration....with all the efforts put into ill-fated foreign operations one SHOULD start being concerned about where is the money for domestic issues....however as he is politician I am not surprised....disappointed...very much....however my disappointment for leaders has gone on for years...now I am unfortunatly sensatized to it...however I will and forever speak out.....

    No, not British
Speaking only as an American and my point of view
The title to the thread did not say " only answer if Britsh" or I would've stayed away

Perhaps if I gave a different view, where I'm from may not have concerned you so much?

  • Re: Blair's courage

One has to have access to regular feeds of CBS, ABC and NBC, as well as the US home version of CNN, to realise that actually, the BBC here isn't so bad. I have access to these US stations, and their content is astonishingly poor in comparison with BBC News 24. How would people know the deal I was posting, a couple of years ago, about Hutton and the Downing Street memo, in the States, when the big news on NBC seems to be, at the moment, about this bint who used to present the US version of "Millionaire", taking over as anchor?

If you watched these shit stations - glad I don't have Fox - you might think, on the shiny toothed surface, Blair was a leader of darkbrained children into adult, civilised light. However, if you read Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness, you might pick up some sense of precedent from all this nonsense.

    Do you follow?

now there is no need for racism. there are a lot of reasons why the nhs isnt as good as it should be so dont go down the The Sun or The Mail route of blaming immigrants/muslims.

its a common misconception that "foreigners" are the cause of all britains ills.
In most cases they are working below the minimum wage, paying outrageous rents and council taxes.
You only have to look at the recent crime figures to realise that the majority of crimes are being committed by home grown criminals.

its not a "misconception". it is infact a lie propergated by the right-wing press and it is sad how many people believe them.

Like our leader Mr Bush, It takes a brave man to send others to die while living a life of privelage and attending thousand dollar fundraisers on a weekly basis.
I mean, at some point, champagne gives you burps. And ANBAR province has nothing on those burps.

And Bush knows all about war from his traumatic experience flying extinct WW2 era bombers while getting drunk, doing blow, and missing his ANG commitments. You think life comes easy with a last name like Bush?
