From the August 2007 Takoma Park Newsletter. Story by Virginia Myers:

Impeachment has gone beyond buttons and yard signs in Takoma Park. Voting unanimously, the City Council passed a resolution July 23 to impeach President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. The City joins 80 other jurisdictions, including San Francisco and Detroit, in an official declaration calling for impleachment; it is the first in the Washington metropolitan area to do so.

Here is the wording of the resolution:

This was city once my home in TP and it was always a city that made a difference. With this meeting it will certainly continue to make a difference especially being so close to Washington DC.

It takes one to take that big step forward and the rest will follow.

  • No one's impeaching Bush, however much we might support it.

That city council has better things to do than waste money and time on pointless resolutions.

Never said he'll be impeached, however the powers that be in this regime has to know citizens and cities will voice their indifferences with this administration.

In other words this is for others Presidents and vice Presidents who may intend on following the path of Me Ma & Mini Me.

My town did the same back in May.

  • Like echoes nobody hears? Nobody elected them to impeach president Bush. Who died and made these city council members the voice of reason?

Bush deserves to be impeached by congress, not by resolutions from city councils. That is no victory to be proud of because it shows just how marginalized impeachment support really is.

I think what this really shows is how disenfranchised so many americans feel right now. Specifically, it shows that they are so desperate to be heard by THEIR OWN 'SERVANT' GOVERNMENT, that they are forced to push resolutions through their own local governments in order to get NATIONAL attention.

Hey, at least if a city passes a resolution (or 80 municipalities, in this case) it will GET PRESS ... unlike a letter to your congressman, which gets you NOWHERE (i know ... i've written a few. pointless!) ...

i think it's unfortunate that you view the attempt at government BY THE PEOPLE as an inappropriate expenditure.

    :(
