We are staying at the Residence Inn downtown. It looks like a decent place and we got a pretty good rate. Having never been to Hartford before I can't recommend another hotel. I did read a thread where some 10c members were talking about staying at the Motel 6.

For those of you not on a shoestring budget and who want a step up and don't want a flea bag joint: The Residence Inn, the Crowne Plaza and the Hilton are all walking distance (less than a mile) from the Dodge Music Center...

Then there's a Red Roof Inn and a Motel 6 close by also...

    not some...but a lot.

this and the cheap price is driving me towards reserving a room at the 6...

the 6 is the place to be. people make it sound like its a slum.. i stayed there in '06 and it was fine. it ain't the ritz, but it's cheap, clean on the inside, spitting distance to the venue, and a nice little spot to pre-game.
i'm more a fan of popular bands.. like the bee-gees, pearl jam

Stay away from the hotels right around the venue. That means the Super 8, Motel 6 (used to be a red roof inn), and anything on Weston or Service Rds or thereabouts. They are fleabag whore hangouts and crack dens. Trust me, I work in the area.

The downtown area is highly recommended. More of a walk, but I think there may be shuttles from downtown hotels. But unless it pours it'll take 10-15 minutes to walk from most downtown hotels. Hilton+Crown Plaza are my strong recommendation. I seem to remember people getting great deals on the Sheraton (or Hilton ) in 2006 on Priceline. There is a brand new Mariott near the convention center. This one is bound to cost a little more but it would be my choice.

OK man, you scared me out of the Motel 6. I just went to Hotwire and got the Sheraton for $49. Pretty good if you ask me. I think I'll just take a cab to a downtown bar before the show and then walk to the show from there.

The Goodwin Hotel is by far the nicest.

It is right across from the Civic Center and about mile walk from the venue.

If walking from downtown - will we be walking through said areas to get to the music center?

Ditto...If I stay downtown is it feasible to walk to the amptheatre? I figured it would be too far of a walk?

Also, would it be worth my time staying downtown? I am sure Hartford has plenty to offer but I will be getting plenty of staying downtown action on this tour in larger cities. Therefore, I am not opposed to staying on the outskirts of town if there isn' too much going on and save a buck.

you make whores and crack sound like a bad thing. i'll be using the hotel for drinking and sleeping. so long as there's a roof, it'll do just fine.

Ditto.....I'm going by myself. If there is nothing going on downtown, I will just hang with the fans at the venue and just have a 6 pack back at the room with a late night pizza

Thanks for that tip - I just got Sheraton for $52. I think I stayed there last time - its a bit of a walk, but that's still way better than trying to drive in that mayhem after the show.

Looking at Google Earth, those hotels are north of the venue. Downtown is directly south of the venue.

No one has mentioned the Marriot Residence Inn. How about that hotel?? It is about $100 per night and looks decent. My wife and I are coming from MN to a few shows and would like some recommendations.

Perfectly safe to walk in the area, just don't stay in the hotels. I wouldn't want those sheets touching me.

Its mostly car dealers in this area and parking lots for insurance companies, you'd be walking past. No worries but the weather.
