Tied up and left to die in a burning apartment, a Columbia student used the blaze set by her sadistic rapist to free herself, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said yesterday.
"It appears she was able to escape as a result of the fire," Kelly said. "She was tied, and the flame was used by her to break the bond."....

i know. This is a poses a good debate topic...what can you do to someone who does this? They didn't kill anyone so the death penalty isn't an option (to some it's never an option, which is fine). But can you rehabilitate someone who does this...Is this a prime example of throw away the key?

For me, the death penalty is never an option. My opinion is that this guy needs to be put away where he can't hurt people forever, or until we come up with a foolproof method of rehabilitation ...... so yeah, forever. Not tortured, not maimed, just locked away for society's protection, and studied in the hopes of one day knowing how to prevent this type of atrocity from taking place.

I can't even think about doing something like this so I don't know how one could be rehabilitated.

I agree...he needs to be removed from society by some means...I wonder if we really could do anything to prevent it. I mean, the signs that people talk about are usually extremely clear AFTER the fact but people display various amounts of insanity on a daily basis...what separates the real crazies from just the sorta crazies...and what causes someone to just snap??? oh well...I hate to ask the question and run but I gotta go get articles and drafts written.

the judge should meet with the victim in private quarters and discuss what the punishment should be or the victim can deliver the punishment. if the victim is unable to deliver the punishment.........i am sure her someone in the family is capable.

  • i'm a firm believer in the eye for an eye law and order. taxpayers have to pay to house these maniacs forever use land and resources to keep them alive forever. to keep someone like charles manson ticking makes no sense.what did that accomplish? zip nada shit the guy became a fucking cult hero over the years probably inspired more psychos who weren't even born yet when he did the killings to follow in his footsteps. i'm only talking about criminals with overwhelming evidence caught red handed or filmed committing the crime proven beyond a doubt that they did it. if this guy had to be raped himself and then tied up and be left in a burning building to die if he can't escape. just maybe he might think more than twice before doing it. jail obviously isn't much of a deterrent these days in america. we have millions of people locked behind bars and the majority get out and do crimes equal or worse than the ones they were originally in for. america is too soft in these harsh times both internationally and right here at home. it's time we grew some balls. do unto others as you would want done onto you.

Funny, should mention Charles Manson, he wasn't caught red handed, he didn't murder anyone, he wasn't even present at the scene of the crime...

I'll never understand men who rape women, who want to further humilate and mutiliate them in such horrible ways. What is the matter with men?

I can't think about how you think either. That's what makes this such a hot scientific issue.

Strict 'punishment' and the death penalty have been used for all of human existence and yet we still have cases like this. Suggests to me those methods simply don't matter.

i would use them for scientific experiments... send them to labs and stuff and use them like rats or animals that get tested

  • there is a movie from brazil about a guy who rapes his girlfriend. the girl reaches over to grab a phone to call the cops while she tries to fight him off. when the cops get there the guy just keeps going at it humpin her. even while they grab his hands to pull him off he's still going at it. finally when the cops are about to get him off the girl says, "wait. don't take him off, i'm about to cum."

That won't prevent a rape. a person is'nt gonna quickly think "oh, I may get 10 extra years if I rape this girl" then turns around and walks away. so stricter laws will not do much.
    ---

studies show that most rape victims knew their assailant. so common sense shows that women need to be smarter about the people they associate themselves with. well that's a start anyway.

It all makes sense to me actually. But is this a work of fiction?

oh, you mean maybe it was based on a true story. perhaps... being that it's brazil. brazil's crazy like that, or so i hear from my cousin who lived there.

I don't know if it's particularly messed up.

I often wonder how a woman who is being raped can self-lubricate. Or if the rapist brings along a bottle of astroglide. As I imagine the self-lubrication of a woman is a biological function that isn't controlled mentally, just as teenage boys get erections they don't want in the middle of class. I knew a kid named Steve Chong that walked around with a boner all day, hence people called him 'boner'. And to what degree does the physical stimulation of the vagina alter the woman's state of consciousness. So prior to and after being raped the woman is in a state of consciousness that rejects the idea, but depending on other factors, perhaps whilst being raped she is in a more accepting state of consciousness. And I don't mean to degrade the severity of rape or to slant the issue in anyway. I'm simply making a theory based on what I know.

maybe it was the director's way of giving a light of their own perspective in terms of attraction between male and female. i'd say in the director's mind they were implicating that the woman was sub-consciously being attracted to the male's testosterone energy. so it's kind of like what you say that she is in a more accepting state of consciousness.

i had a dog that i gave to a friend of mine. she neutered him but later found that he was still humping other dogs... that's a great story. maybe because he learned from my own testosterone energy ;)

what is your take on the psychology of attraction between male and female?
