Kenya - Your Chance To Help

In the wake of the violence that has been occurring in Kenya, I've been looking into some ways that I could help a few of the citizens of Kenya to not only recover from the country's recent turmoil but also to continue their work towards building a stable, healthy society free of such frivolous chaos and violence. As part of that research, I've discovered a very small, private non-profit organization that has been doing work with women and children in Takaungu, Kenya. The East Africa Center, founded in Seattle, is seeking to increase the health and literacy of Kenyans in this small community outside of Mombasa. The organization operates the Vutakaka Community Center which includes a school for both child and adult literacy programs, a health clinic that provides basic health services as well as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria education, and a sewing and agricultural center to help provide income to those living in or near the village. They are desperately seeking funds to help expand their over-crowded school as the Kenyan government continues to fail in its promise to deliver education to all Kenyan children.
The non-profit East Africa Center is currently privately funded -- it receives no government grants. It relies entirely on individual donors and institutional grants from organizations like the Gates Foundation. While I am planning on becoming one of those individual donors, I thought it might be nicer to make the entire board a donor instead and make a gift to this organization from "The Friends of Pearl Jam". As part of that effort, I will let you determine my funding level - I will match whatever dollar amount you pledge.
If you would like to participate in this effort, please complete the form on this website or contact me via PM. This is a wonderful opportunity to directly help ordinary Kenyans continue their struggle to achieve the success and stability we all take for granted.
Thank you for your consideration and any help you can provide.
Best,
-Jeff

Many thanks to each of you who indicated that you would like to help the East Africa Center's work in Kenya. I cannot express enough my appreciation to those of you who took the time to learn more about EAC and pledged some of your hard-earned money to their virtuous campaign in Kenya. To make your donation, please visit:
https://www.networkforgood.org/donation/ExpressDonation.aspx?ORGID2=912161222
Please be sure to put “The friends of Pearl Jam” in the "Designation" field. To those that pledged via the website I posted earlier, I will make a donation to EAC matching your pledge. If you did not pledge through the website and are going to donate, please let me know the amount of your pledge and I will match your donation as well.
Thanks again for your help.
Best,
-Jeff

The continuing violence in Kenya is making EAC's fundraising efforts more important than ever. The prices of basic goods continue to skyrocket and EAC needs your support!
Happy bidding, and thanks in advance for your efforts and support.
Best,
-Jeff
PS: Many thanks to the folks at the 10 Club for allowing me to do this.

Remember that the proceeds from these auctions are going to a great cause. Thankfully, the violence in Kenya is showing signs of abating as the various political factions continue to seek compromise. However, millions of Kenyans still live in extreme poverty and organizations like The East African Center are working hard every day to give ordinary Kenyan villagers access to education and health care. As a private non-profit, EAC needs your help in order to help others!
My deepest thanks go out to all of you who have donated your money or participated in these auctions. You guys rock!
I got my a$$ kicked! I loooost the auction
If anyone else would like to help EAC, you can donate directly via the link below:

Every dollar counts and goes a long way towards helping end Kenya's cycle of poverty. I would encourage anyone who is interested in helping to donate via the link above and to include "The Friends of Pearl Jam" in their designation. You can also donate via mail or phone -- information is available at EAC's website (http://www.eastafricancenter.org/).
I will be visting EAC's community center in Kenya this September and will be sure to report back regarding the work they are doing.
Thanks again everybody!
Best,
-Jeff
