It's clearly very funny. But they definitely broke some stupid security laws, and seem like they'll get a custodial sentence.
why should the chaser boys be charged with anything because of security incompetence?

And the fact that the security worked is a bonus according one of the suits. And some didn't see a funny side to it. Kind of like a regular joe like myself wondering if these leaders are doing such a bang up job of representing my ideals then why have 5km or more under heavy security to keep them safe.
Yeah, I can't see the police pushing for anything less than a custodial sentence, let's face it they've got egg all over their faces!
And hopefully if that's what they attempt to do there will be wide spread protest!
Obviously there's something VERY wrong in this country if everyone has lost their sense of humor and can't see the woods for the trees!

I agree cate! Frankly they should be awarded an Order of Australia for pointing out the security flaws before anything really bad happened!
I mean if Chaser can get in, good humoredly, and so very easily isn't it better to know that than discover their security doesn't work because a sleep cell managed to get in?
They've done the Government and the police a huge favor by pointing out flaws in the system. They should be applauded not vilified.

Exactly even!
If it's that easy for a comedy team to pull a stunt how easy for someone with not so humorous intent?
It's not like they had security passes. And NOBODY checked through 2 of the checkpoints in the green zone. Not to mention the Canadian Prime Minister didn't arrive here until last night well after The Chaser crew had been arrested!
I'm bloody glad someone was able to show this APEC farce for the charade that it is and so beautifully too, with humor and good grace. Shame the same can't be said for all the fools that weren't doing their jobs properly if security is the name of the game.

There's some really interesting opinion underneath these articles too.
My only hope is that Little Johnny isn't given the opportunity to further silence the ABC because of this. Although given Kevin 07's comments one would have to wonder if Auntie will fare any better with him.

It's good to see that in some countries, officials are able to maintain some degree of sense of humor. What I don't get is why the Chaser team should be charged with "entering a restricted area without justification". Isn't it security's job to make sure no one enters, which they finally did anyway?
It was a new law Jean, specifically enacted for APEC.
Not that any of it has done us much good now that vile turd, Little Johnny has signed a bloody deal with Russia to provide Uranium!
Frankly I wish Chaser had managed to get close enough to spit in their eyes!

Yesterday, the team was at it again, three members replicating their colleagues' headline-grabbing stunt.
Police stopped the trio - Craig Reucassel, Chris Taylor and Dominic Knight - in the CBD as they walked down the street with black cardboard limousines strapped to their backs. The cars were decorated with Canadian flags and had paper-plate wheels.
Knight, who is also a columnist with the Herald's website, said the stunt was like re-enacting a scene from Romper Room.
"We established that APEC is safe from the scourge of cardboard motorcades," he said.
Thanks Hinny!
LMAO!! "The scourge of cardboard motorcades!"

They could of got even further than they did but they decided to give themselves up by getting out of one of the cars dressed as Osama. Didn't take security long to get very serious after that. Was sooo funny. They had footage of the cops saying "the roads all yours mate, all yours".
http://www.abc.net.au/tv/chaser/war/video/default.htm
and security allowed them to attempt a u-turn RIGHT OUT THE FRONT of bush's hotel. yeah but they were more concerned about julian morrow than chas as osama. chas just seemed to be walking along with them for something to do.
fuckin' hilarious.
and what about when they tried to use their security passes to get into an RSL. no way were they getting in there.
i can't wait until they start in on the federal election.
