Are they going to draw the line somewhere here?
I want a bailout for my beer consumption. Maybe I should ask the gov't.

This is getting ridiculous. I agree when do we draw the line. Cities are just going to have to tighten their belts just like most companies and individual Americans are doing.
Yes, that's def ironic.
The thing that bothers me is Philadelphia is involved. Here's why I think it's crazy. Philly has a huge education/healthcare industry. That's not going to get hit hard from this mess. Moreover, they have a diverse structure and aren't terribly exposed to housing. Lastly, the Phillies just won the Championship and injected tons of cash into city coffers. Why the F is Philly leading this charge?
Because everyone wants their turn to stick their hand in the cookie jar.
Probably right, unfortunately.
If someone was standing on your corner handing out free money you would probably go get some even if you really needed it or not. Unfortunately in this case the government is handing out our money.
ps. empty your PM box.
That's true.
-done.
Probably because Philly, like all large metropolitan areas, relies heavily on property taxes to meet their budgets.
And like all large metropolitan areas, property values probably took a nose dive, putting a serious strain on the municiple budget, by drasticaly lowering tax revenues.
I wrote about this extensively in the "how bad will it get" thread.
:(
If I opened it now would you not understand?
Because they have been dragging their feet in regards to getting casinos built in Philly for the last 2 years and now have a budget which includes money generated from said casinos which are no where near close to being built.... also as stated above with regards to property taxes, real estate transfer fees and taxes and all of the other mundane sources of income a city has....

Social awareness does not equal political activism!
5/23/2011- An utter embarrassment... ticketing failures too many to list.
Everyone better hurry and destroy a business with mismanagement soon before all the money is gone.
HEY IT'S FREE! Talk about con artists. Maybe the city of Detroit bought his book.
I just hope they sneak the Red Wings to Fort Wayne before the shit goes down.
Didn't they fix up downtown pretty nice fairly recently?
Detroit is in very rough shape.
It would have been a great halloween outfit to dress up like him and call yourself the federal government.
