The "I'm Leaving Earth" Thread

Tina Fey said it. If Palin becomes VP she's "leaving earth". Why do celebrities (and not only celebrities, even some on here) threaten to "leave America", "go to Canada" or "leave earth" if the candidate they support does not win? Do they really think we care where they go? Do they think that is going to do anything?

It reminds me of a little kid who's got a basketball and threatens to go home with his ball if he loses a basketball game. IMHO it's really immature.

What's your opinion on the whole SUBJECT.... not just Tina Fey.... cause the truth is, I really like her, but I think she was immature with that particular statement.

It's a childish reaction to not getting your way.

  • it has been said by both sides.

I really wouldn't make it an issue, I don't think they mean it.

Yup. I'll continue to make fun of people who say shit like this. Vedder, Penn, Baldwin, and now Fey. Put up or shut up.

Yes. It is. Thanks for stopping in.
  • I think it's more about expressing the idea of giving up on something very important to them, such as where they are in the world.
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions

Tina Fey is a comedian so you can't take her seriously. Besides it will make her very rich if Palin becomes VP. She'll have a great job for the next 4 years.

I wouldn't move if McCain won...but I'd think about leaving the country if we have to use the 25th amendment. I don't see a Palin presidency as anything but a disaster.

It's just a way of expressing how strongly you feel, for or against something. And I think she was just joking.

lots of republicans are saying the same thing (well, leaving the country at least) if obama gets elected.

I hope that Obama gets elected and plenty of Republicans follow through on that.

Are you sure? :p It just seemed like something a closet scientologist would say.

I mean everybody knows if things aren't going well the grand statement to make is, "I'm moving to New Zealand!" :D

Oh she was just spouting off. I am a lifelong democrat and have never been one to say I'm leaving just because someone I didn't support gets into power. My feeling is this is my country, and I have a right to live here, regardless of who's running it, so I'm staying no matter what!

 but, as an outsider looking in, that's all the republicans say 'if you don't like it, move to Canada'. This is the first I've heard of someone saying they'll do it... I thought that'd impress ya... someone standing up for their beliefs? :p
