    I hope that, as long as the election is seen as "fair," we'll be OK. Remember 2000, hanging chads, etc.? We can't go through that shit again. That shit might be catastrophic.

    In response to the question, as blackredyellow mentioned earlier, if Obama goes out Gore style than I think we're going to see some shit go down. White people, black people, it wouldn't be a racial thing.

    At the same time, I don't think many people are viewing this election as a referendum on race, so if he loses fair and square, I can't see too much action for that reason. I think it will be very comparable to the climate after Kerry's failed campaign.

    Well, I don't think anyone "knows" anything.

    At the same time, I don't think the OP was thinking all black people would riot. Every race, every group, has its share of violent wing-nuts...Anyway you break up a large group of people with no ideological ties, but rather arbitrary ties such as skin color, you can be sure there are a few lunatics. So, I guess to that extent there is a generalization--but a generalization that can be made about any group.

    So, the question to me seemed, will anyone rise up if Obama loses?

    In a way, you are all right. It was a generalization... but, it was not only phrased as a question... it also had the label "hypothetical" attached to it and it was searching for opinions on the subject.

    I don't know what more one can do. I feel like the "race" issue (at least on this board) is getting way too much press.

    I could not care less if Obama was black, red, yellow, purple. I care about his policies... and this thread doesn't have anything to do with policies or even Obama. It has to do with a segment of his supporters.

    In this case, I was stating that I believe a segment of his supporters (yes, this segment is African American) may be upset if he loses. Why? Well, he would "have" been the first Afriance American President for one. Secondly, African Americans have gotten upset by racial issues in the past (LA riots, OJ). They were different obviously (rulings instead of elections), but the scale and nature of this is much much bigger.

    I don't think there's anything wrong with pondering "what could happen" with all of these factors in play. If you do, oh well.

    Maybe it's a dumb thread, maybe not. But it's getting people to talk, that's the key, let's see how it turns out...but you know, even the worst of threads have become great threads due to great posts, even a single one, too bad your post could not be that one, you just added to whatever was perhaps bad about it.

    This thread brings up a good point. You amy not agree with the way in which it was presented but that doesn't diminish the fact that it is a real possibility that riots may erupt if people feel that they where cheated.

    Everytime The Red Sox go the the World Series or the Pats to the Super Bowl, Boston has to equip the riot brigade amongnst the Colleges in Boston. I do not believe this guy is trying to be racist by posting this. The fact is the majority of people that are going to be voting for Obama this election are members of the younger generations. It's how they choose to celebrate and how to vent their frustration. A sad truth nowadays. I mean i'm not saying every Obama/McCain supporter is going to want to riot. I'm just saying if it can happen with baseball it can happen with America.

    I'm sorry...I didn't realize that being a die hard fan of teams that sucked for 86 years because you actually have a little trait called loyalty is called being the worst group of fans.
