Why not have two moderators....

One hand-picked by conservatives to ask the Dem questions

One hand-picked by liberals to ask the Rep questions

....this way you know each side would be getting very tough questions.

even better, an open forum where citizens ask the questions, regular people not hand selected by either candidate.

I think they don't allow it because its a threat to democracy, one which they can't allow.

on a side note, one of the primary objectives of the marshal plan after WWII was to eliminate any threat to the world economic system the US was trying to create. Any indigineous socialist, communist, whatehave you system was treated as as something to be dealt with. Local socialist collectives in countries even like France and England were dealt with accordingly, so that only the economic system the US had plan had room to grow. They ended any alternative to their version of capitalism. Vietnam was fought over this motive.

Is this not the "town hall" format McCain was pushing all throughout the summer?
everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do

if Mccain is pushing for this, I want to be the guy asking the first question.

Absolutely. I'm guessing all the questions were handed out in advance so each candidate could prepare their answers. Palin looked like she was quickly briefing her responses at times while new questions were being asked, and they both seemed to be looking down and turning cards or something as each new question came up.

One thing that also struck me is that neither of them said the word "uhh" at any point. This is odd , as most, if not all people take some time to digest a cold question and formulate an answer...usually avoiding any significant silence by inserting an uhm or an ahh...

I think we may have witnessed a TV show.
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.
