Ah yes, liberals showing their true colors. They are not tolerant. They do not respect opposing viewpoints or those that hold those viewpoints. You are all immature and hypocritical. Take care.

What if we think homosexuality is a sin and satanic? Oh yeah, shh....we are not allowed to think that, otherwise our deaths will be cheered. Sshhhh.....

yeah just like the conservatives cheer whenever a homosexual dies of AIDS.

AIDS is THE LORD's WRATH on homosexuality.

    HATE works both ways dude

The people posting on here I would hope they would conduct themselves better. There is a difference between calling AIDS the Lord's wrath and cheering someone's death. If you ever cheer someone's death than you are in the fringe, and probably have issues to work out. Now, if the guy murdered your family, then you can cheer.

Hmmm, after reading the thread up to this point, I don't see many "cheering" his death. Just not being sad. bootlegger, it's one thing to hold a belief, it's another when you force it on others and act against them as a result of ONE's particular belief.

I won't miss him, I won't cheer his death, but I'll be damned if I'm going to say it's a sad day. And no, I'm not a liberal. I can just have an opinion separate of the extreme of either end.

I think you make a great fricking point about the difference between acknowledging the justifiable death and suffering of hundreds of thousands of humans vs. shamefully acknowledging the death of one the men that taught us about those welcomed deaths of countless number of humans. Falwell told the world the simple truth.....that gays deserve AIDS and that getting AIDS is God punishing them for sinning (because being gay of course a sin).... its really just the communication of fact and is actually a warm and loving exchange of ideas. He should be honored by all as he was a catalyst for peace and acceptance of everyone. But....no....these "emotional" liberals insist on not expressing their sadness for all of our loss.

Wow... I rarely see anyone else from Lynchburg in here!

I've met Jerry on numerous occasions but never got as close as your husband did... lol
There are a few of us around that are living in Lynchburg. Unfortunately, I'm moving to High Point, NC next weekend so there goes one more...
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.'

-I don't rejoice in the deaths of others, but ...

...my condolances to his friends and family.

I know the vast majority on here hated him, but he was still a human being. He did a lot of good for this community. I'm not his biggest fan, but did go to Liberty University. Not everybody there was crazy about Jerry. From what I have seen when I've seen him around town and campus and from the people I know who knew him, he was a fun-loving guy. Today isn't the day to bash the man. You can disagree with him all you want, just show a little respect for his family.

A fun loving guy who just happened to preach hate and intolerence...

    Falwell quotes:

    “If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being”

“Billy Graham is the chief servant of Satan in America”

“AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals”

There's the first 3 I found from him!

Regardless, It is sinking to his level not to respect his passing.

Does the guy above this post realize his beliefs are the antithesis of what Pearl Jam stands for?

A person is of course free to think that. Just as a person is free to believe that the world is flat and that George Bush is a great man. No one's saying that these beliefs should be outlawed, just that the people who think them should be tarred and feathered.

Sorry dude, I may be liberal but I'm certainly not Ghandi. No one said Liberalism is perfect and in my book, the second someone publicly announces that September 11th was the result of Homosexualality, femenists and Abortion Clinics, they go on my shit list. And no I don't care if he publically appoligized for it. Public appologies are just a reactionary measure, when the heat gets too high, they have to do something to temper the response of the masses. In my opinion, he didn't actually feel any remorse for his comments. He also said the following:

In 1999, he told an evangelical conference that the Antichrist was a male Jew who was probably already alive. Falwell later apologized for the remark but not for holding the belief

That comment is so ridiculous you'd think it came from the Borat movies out takes, but no it's really how he felt.

So yes, I repect those that have different views then me, but I do not respect hate mongers that spew venom with their every breath. Jerry Fallwell good riddance.

    Totally agree

No, it isnt a crime to be ignorant, so you can think whatever you want. However, if you think a whole group of humans are sinful and satanic, you fall into a special catagory. Unfortunately, you have the right to free speech, but what you sadly dont understand is that you dont have a right to spread hate and cause suffering; which you do by expressing such painfully idiotic rhetoric. Why do you think W and his ultra Christian-Extremists are fighting so hard to not include the targeting of gays in any type of hate crime legislation? Because douchebags like you and Falwell create and encourage the hate of people for who they are by labeling the person a sin. Its none of your business how they live their lives, so all you are promoting is hatred for people that are not exactly like you. And, countless studies show that people when express such hatred, they are often simply projecting the hatred they hold for themselves. So carry on thinking what you want, but for your sake I hope their isnt a hell or else you will soon find yourself sandwiched between Ted Haggart and Falwell, unable to get it up and without an asshole. How frustrating your eternity will be!

HAHAHA...that guy asked you to be respectful of his family. I wonder if he ever has thought twice about families of the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis that have died because assfucks like Falwell got their tentacles into politics and their life-saturating fetish (to have Jesus come back) into American Foreign Policy.

Jesus isnt coming back and sitting back jerking off to the thought of him resurfacing is causing more and more pain and suffering in our name. If there is a god and a devil, the devil has clearly painted and planted disguised images of himself with a crown of thorns, written the script of the religion, tricked an entire flock of people and given clueless followers that cleverly deceptive story to control them. He wasnt lying when he wrote about himself that the devil is incredibly intelligent and manipulative....he just pretended to be god so that you would do his work for him.....Look around...he sure is getting you guys to run around in a frenzy and kill without thinking anything of it.

I find it hard to believe that guys like him actually exist.

I was just looking at Fred Phelps' site (http://www.godhatesfags.com)

Is it for real? I can't even tell. Its so ridiculous that I can't decide if its genuine or just somebody's hilarious satire of this idiots.
It doesn't matter if you're male, female, or confused; black, white, brown, red, green, yellow; gay, lesbian; redneck cop, stoned; ugly; military style, doggy style; fat, rich or poor; vegetarian or cannibal; bum, hippie, virgin; famous or drunk-you're either an asshole or you're not!

Many mainstream conservative and fundamentalist Christians (including those who oppose homosexuality, such as Jerry Falwell), have denounced Phelps' remarks as hateful and un-Christian, and in general oppose Phelps' view that homosexuals cannot repent (the traditional view is that homosexuality is not the "unpardonable sin"; homosexuals may renounce their ways as may any other sinner). Falwell is often credited with referring to Phelps as "a first-class nut".
