after living half my life under the bushes... it moved me to tears to see what this country is capable of! what us young people are capable of!

*feel free to share your stories of this historical night!

    :D:D:D

My story? well i spent the day eagerly anticipating the result at work and it was wonderful to see Obama's speech, stressing the importance of the 'enduring power of our ideals' (over arms and wealth) These are words to live by.

    Contratulations from the UK!

ive been cynical for a number of years... and i think rightfully so... thats not to say america had turned its back on me... as a white, middle income, college educated, male i have nothing to complain about... but it has been hard to watch america move in the wrong direction for so long... really culminating with mccains campaign... ive never seen such admiration for ignorance

it was really a powerful reaffirmation

to see my friends (all art students) who are typically very bleak people so overwhelmed and hopeful... with this country so fired up (the "fake" parts of it anyway) its hard to think brighter days arent ahead... and obamas true power is really his ability to inspire

You can still be cynical and proud at the same time. I'm proud to live in a country that provides citizens freedom to be cynical.

    Thank you sgossard3!
I am not american and until yesterday, all the years I have been in the US included, I didn't want to be american.... but today, call me silly... I wish I was!!!
Now I understand all the reasons from some liberals who were/are against Obama... I totally understand, since in the last elections I was one among those liberals who hardly campained against Kerry..... I know Obama is still in the hand of the powerful lobbies.... I know he's not Kennedy, nor Allende... nor Zapatero maybe.... I know everything. But now the US and the world are in a terrible situation and another republican administration would really have meant a disaster for all....... AND, the important thing to me here is that this is a big sign from the people. A BIG SIGN FROM THE PEOPLE!!! You know what I mean?? And if it's too much to ask for a change for the whole world, I just wish there is a change for you american people, a change for your economic and social problems and a change of perspective..... Big changes require small steps. To all those liberals who were against Obama I just want to say... don't be utopistic, because this doesn't bring you nowhere, not with your electoral system. But such a small change Obama can offer, there is at least hope it will take one more step in the future, and one more again..... I just hope, really hope, that the people of America will find new ways, new values, new perspective through this little step called Obama.
I wish you all good four years ahead!

    :)
    indeed!

i won't say i am *proud* to be american, simply i am pleased that we, finally, collectively, have made a choice...a clear choice.....and hopefully a clear message. today is a VERY happy day in my eyes. i am merely thankful that my fellow citizens are a bit more aligned with my thoughts than i have believed these past 8 years, and yes that slowly...we CAN change, we can make a difference, collectively. it's time.

Youthful ignorance. I remember being that young and naive. Wait until you grow up...your politics will probably change. Once you have to get a job, own a home and put food on the table...you'll realize how badly this con artist of a President Elect is about to fleece American citizens.

Slick words don't make for a great leader...they just easily con young adults like yourself who love surface rhetoric...and under-educated minority voters who want hand outs...into voting for people like Barack.

um, i am more than grown up, thank you. i am well-educated, have a job, own a home, put food on the table, all these things...and i absolutely believe that obama is the BEST choice to us today. and it is not simply 'slcik words' at all...i too believe it takes a lot more to make a leader, and i see many of those qualities in obama. if you don't...i sincerely hope his presidency changes your mind, and really to benefit of us all.
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...

I am myself like you somehow

You're right. I was just responding to an ignorant post that wasn't relevant to your thread. I'll share my story. I sat here at home and watched the coverage most of the night. I was nervous the whole time until NBC called it for Obama at 11pm. It was a great feeling seeing how happy people were. I was really happy. Watched Obama's speech it was a good one. If you were in Chicago that's pretty awesome, I was wishing I was back there. Grant Park looked packed and fun.

I just saw on tv an african village with all the people dancing like crazy to celebrate Obama, and a huge beach party in japan with all japanese people dancing dressed like hawaiians, they say Obama means "beach" in japanese, ahaha, crazy stuff ... I couldn't believe it!

  • Never was much a fan but will.i.am put together a great track yesterday that summed up the last 48 hours. Just saw him perform it on Oprah. This song will probably be huge. I can already see myself sick of it in a week. It works for the moment though. I'd be shocked if he's not picked to perfom it for the inauguration in a few months.
