Help me name my new business / politics, war and current events

I'm going to start my own little side business, and I would like help from everyone here in naming it. I'm a graphic designer, and I would like the name of my business to be somewhat dark, mysterious...and connected to the world of politics and war. I will be doing freelance graphic design work, and I'm interested in creating a brand for my company that conveys my interest in politics, as well as my fascination with the "darker" side of political things such as war, covert operations, secrets, deception, propaganda, etc.

I'm going for the Karl Rove in a dark restaurant meeting with Libby to discuss the invasion of Baghdad while it's raining outside motif.

I'm more interested in something subtle and creative, as opposed to "Guns rule dude." I would prefer to keep it to two words or less, but I'm open to any thoughts.

I don't want to politicize this thread, I'm open to ideas that would even be critical of my own personal politics...so post away.

From what I understand about business naming conventions is to actually reflect what it is you do. So if it's graphics, you probably want to have graphics in the name, like "Crusader Graphics".

So, using a thesaurus, here are some examples.

fighter, legionary, legionnaire, man-at-arms, regular, serviceman, warrior
servicewoman; cavalier, cuirassier, dragoon, trooper; dogface, doughboy, footman, foot soldier, infantryman; commando, marine, ranger; artilleryman, musketeer, rifleman; archer, lancer, spearman; Confederate, Continental, Federal, GI, guardsman, Rough Rider; guerilla, irregular, partisan; combatant, noncombatant; mercenary, soldier of fortune; veteran, war-horse; conscript, draftee, recruit; reservist, darkened, darkish, darkling, darksome, dim, dimmed, dusky, gloomy, murky, obscure, obscured, pitch-black, pitch-dark, somber (or sombre) abhorrence, abomination, execration, hatred, loathing, cattiness, despite, despitefulness, hatefulness, invidiousness, malevolence, malice, maliciousness, malignancy, malignity, meanness, spite, spitefulness; aversion, disgust, distaste, horror, odium, repugnance, repulsion, revulsion; animosity, antagonism, antipathy, bitterness, contempt, disdain, enmity, grudge, hostility, jealousy, pique, resentment, scorn; bile, jaundice, rancor, spleen, venom, virulence, vitriol, cunning, tricky; misbehaving, naughty; pestering, riling, teasing, devilish, elvish, impish, knavish, pixieish, prankish, rascally, roguish, sly, waggish, wicked

Anyway, you can play around with that, some of the words are crappy, I don't eve know what 10% of them mean, but that's how I come up with names, like Animus. I like Odium or Opprobrium :)
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire

not good with names but good luck with your business.
  • The word 'severed' sounds pretty dark and goes along with a PJ theme if ya wanted to. 'Severed Graphics' or maybe 'Severed Designs'??? Just a thought.
If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

    Damage Design
    Digital Damage
    Collateral Graphics
    In the Zone/Fallout Zone
    Nebulosity
    Stygian Ink
    Dire Secret
    Dyeth Ink ?
    Blotters Cove/Plotters Cave
    Conspiracy Theory
    In Thy Knave

..........not that it's any of my business, but your country (I'm presuming USA) is nuts and you might want to think about not putting people off with something too dark............but I like your appraoch, dark and mysterious

I always liked the word "glaive" an old word for a whacking big sword. Maybe a corrupted spelling of your name, then Glaive
or change your name to match if it doesn't work
    Magnus Glaive
    Antimony Glaive
    Laudanum Glaive
or maybe hemlock, that has teh ring of a wretched plot ( how about Wretched Plot ??)

    Hemlock Glaive
    or Hemlock's Happening

    or insurgent

Insurgent Design, the "surge" part has a positive energy but has a slightly dark feel, maybe Digital Insurgent (ok, after I looked a this, maybe not, too much like digital inserton), Elemental Insurgent, like Venus Rising, but you are a badass,
actually I like Antimony Glaive best, I would choose a company called that, based on cool factor alone !! I think I'll keep that idea in case I need a nom de plume some time.

I've always been interested in back-channel communications in politics or wartime... those shady meetings with authorized delegates.... so I would go with something like back-channel graphics, or back-channel ops or back-channel cabal.

    I don't know...

    October Surprise Graphics?

  • A lot of good ideas here, but I'm pretty sure that the correct answer is:

    Shadowed Cattle

    At least that's my vote!
  • Also, an Honorable Mention should go to:

    Runaway Jesus

just because of the discovery news lately.

Still like "Shadowed Cattle" best, though.

Excellent, I get to keep Antimony Glaive, my ploy of praise worked, heh, heh !!

No seriously, I think 16 Words is very cool and a lot clever, and avoids putting a negative vibe on your business.

  • Do I win? If so, I look forward to being rewarded with 10% of the gross proceeds of the newfound company. That, or a busines card to hang on my wall. I'll leave it up to you.
