Men are superior to women on account of the qualities with which
God has gifted the one above the other. 4:38
The male shall have the portion of two females. 4:175

I don't know much about the bible, but it seems men are superior in traditional Christian customs as well.

That's my point. The Koran, The Bible and The Talmud say all kinds of nasty things, like murdering non-jews or stoning bad children. There is nothing unique about the Qu'ran's negative points.
"Regarding the demand that female Iraqi prisoners be released, the U.S. military says it has eight women in custody. Iraq's Justice Ministry said six were scheduled to be freed before the kidnappers issued demands. However, the U.S. military would not confirm that."
And just when I thought I could see, John Lennon humor took over me, and I laughed. Forgive me.
Um, we were talking about women? Sorry.
indeed.
thankfully, none of us in most of the world have to live under such 'laws' unless we choose to. however, i honestly don't get the 'point' of this thread? although i find that typically, whether right or left leaning ideas...that threads started with inflamed rhetoric rarely have a 'point'.
Let's just breathe...
I am myself like you somehow
"NOW is saying that in order to be a woman, you've got to be a lesbian."--Pat Robertson, "The 700 Club," 12/3/97
"The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians." -- Pat Robertson, fundraising letter, 1992
(talking about Planned Parenthood) "It is teaching kids to fornicate, teaching people to have adultery, every kind of bestiality, homosexuality, lesbianism-everything that the Bible condemns."--Pat Robertson, "The 700 Club," 4/9/91
"I know this is painful for the ladies to hear, but if you get married, you have accepted the headship of a man, your husband. Christ is the head of the household and the husband is the head of the wife, and that's the way it is, period."--Pat Robertson, "The 700 Club," 1/8/92
"I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you." (Genesis 3:16)
"If, however, the charge is not true and no proof of the girls virginity can be found, she shall be brought to the door of her fathers house and there the men of the town shall stone her to death." (Deut. 22:20-21)
The Lord said to Moses, "Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man." (Num. 31:17)
"Wives, submit yourselves unto your husbands, as unto the Lord...Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything." (Eph. 5:22-24)
"Women should remain silent in churches. They are not allowed to speak; but must be in submission as the Law says." (I Cor. 14:34-35)
"A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner." (I Tim. 2:11-14)
"The head of every man is Christ, and the head of every woman is man." (I Cor. 11:3)
"For man did not come from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man." (I Cor. 11:8-9)
"In addition to the abuses against women accused of major criminal offences and those accused of political offences, mainly collaboration with Israel, the report focuses on a third category: the systematic ill-treatment, or even torture, of a large number of the dozens of thousands of foreign women domestic workers in Lebanon. Amnesty International points out that these violations are perpetrated by both the employers and agents of the state which these women approach to complain about their ill-treatment at the hands of their employers or employment agencies. This may include beatings, locking up, deprivation of food, verbal abuse and overwork. Many are also subjected to gender-based violations, including sexual abuse."
Yeah, I can see living there being worth dying for.

Israeli government must stop human rights abuses
against trafficked women
"I had a nervous breakdown. I wanted to escape from this place and asked a client to help me. He turned out to be one of them and I was beaten up by the owners. There was nowhere to run -- there were bars on the windows and bodyguards all the time, day and night."
(Testimony of a woman trafficked from Moldova)
The Israeli government is failing to protect the human rights of women and girls who are trafficked from countries of the former Soviet Union to work in Israel's sex industry, Amnesty International said today in a new report.

So why can't the Jews wail at the wall together. Last I saw the bitches have their own place to wail. Seems fair to me.
Nice quote of the Eph passage leaving out v 25-29 (If you take this to mean women are 2nd class citizens that is beyond me... to emulate christ for the church is to die for it. This passage is about having 2 people working together: the wife respecting the husband and the husband respecting and loving the wife...how else will a marriage work?)
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church
Corinthians 14 is definitely prescriptive to the church at Corinth where the women were being idoloters and were not following the Bible; they weren't allowed to teach or be over a man b/c they were poor examples. That doesn't mean all women are that means those women were.

Do you think this is negative, is that why you're posting it? Well I must say it is so refreshing to see intrest in the plight of women. What are you doing about it? Or are you like Laura Bush and the women in Afghanistan?
cross the river to the eastside
So, is this like the only part of the Koran you agree with, or what?
