What's this I hear about Canadian PM dissolving parliament with the queen of England's authority? Why in the hell does the queen have authority in Canada and wtf is this about ending the parliament?

  • Is this what you mean?

In a nutshell Harper (aka mini Bush) is trying to push through the a Bush-style agenda, but Canadians aren't falling for it.

Nobody really gives a shit what the queen says, she's all over the currency, but that's about it for most people.
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

    actually

    maybe its old news...

yep, my bad. this was in September.

"On Sunday(sept), Harper visited Governor General Michaelle Jean and asked her to dissolve Parliament. The governor general is the representative of Queen Elizabeth II of Britain, who is Canada's head of state, but the position is purely ceremonial and obeys the wishes of the prime minister.

old news may be new news ...

if harper continues as he's done for the past 2 years - the opposition will have no choice but to vote down his latest budget/throne speech ... if so, he will probably ask the gg to dissolve parliament and take us into another election rather than let a coalition govern ...

Just to clear something up dissolving parliament does not mean that parliament is being outlawed. It just means that a session of parliament is finished their turn at governing before an election happens.

that was just the formality in the leadup to the last election.

the current proroguing is the real shitshow.
