well 12 million+ die every year from easily curable diseases or starvation in this empire. then we force them to export their food while they starve, fail to develop the areas...installs brutal dictatorships. There's not much to be proud of, if anything.
  • I knew there was something wrong with those numbers.

    Here's a by country list.

    http://www.kelebekler.com/occ/bas_gb.htm

I lived in Baumholder Germany. A decent sized base, not too big, anyway they count the Quartermaster and the hospital, the airfield and the family housing as seperate bases. That;s dumb, there all connected. So yeah, it's gonna seem large when you look at it like that. Look at all the other repeats in this list too.

    Baumholder, Baumholder, US Army
    Baumholder Airfield, Baumholder, US Army
Baumholder Fam Hsg, Baumholder, US Army
    Baumholder Hospital, Baumholder, US Army
Baumholder Qm Area, Baumholder, US Army

well, we have 38 large to medium sized bases around the globe, capable of launching bombers and so on...

so did great britain at the height of its empire days, and Rome had 37. apparently that's the magic number...

and with 2,500,000 stationed around the world its fairly obvious what's going on.

Is this thread about numerology? What relevance does the number 37 have. Why is it "magic"?

Its archaicism, it is 'might is right', it is 'we will do what we do because that's the way it has always been done', it is a bible and a rifle and the opportunistic moneyman, it is property and wealth, it is influence in one muscular dimension, it is narcissism without a looking glass, it is sickness, it is the disconnected, taking no time to stand on the ground. It is a race that is never run.

It is American cowardice, and it's proud history.

any statistics on how many of these countries are glad or relieved to have our troops there versus how many of these countries resent our presence?

Many of those bases and soldiers are there for peace keeping, not aggresive muscle flexing.

And from the soldiers I've spoken too, many of those areas welcome our soldiers presence.

But I digress, continue accusing and bashing the US, we can take it.

i'd say most of those countries are glad we are there for one reason or another...a majority of them ALLOW us to be there...don't they?

so instead of bickering back and forth about how many bases there are and what i sam empire. let me ask this.

how would this country feel about foreign military bases on our soil? i know i wouldnt like it. what is china had a base in mexico, canada, and the dominican republic that could launch attacks on our soil within minutes?

not as easy to dismiss now is it?

I took a look at that list and it seems to me that they aren't doing anything in a lot of these countries viz most of the European countries.

And it's not exactly the people of those countries that 'allow' them to be there.

see that is the attitude that gives the US their bad reputation. and just why would you think that? the reason why most islands in the caribean and countries in central america are screwed is because that is the way the US goverment wanted it.

Instead of sitting here and bickering about the implications and number of US military bases over seas why not focus on the implications of an ever expanding federal government on our own soil.
