Sorry to crash the Tool party going on here, but this just came up on my iPod and I was reminded what a tremendous song it is.

Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant tide
    Comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine
And no one showed us to the land
And no one knows the wheres or whys
    But something stares and
    Something tries
And starts to climb towards the light

    Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can
And no one calls us to the land
And no one crosses there alive
    And no one speaks
    And no one tries
And no one flies around the sun

And now this is the day you fall
    Upon my waking eyes
Inviting and inciting me to rise
And through the window in the wall
Comes streamin in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning
And no one sings me lullabies
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide

WOW mom!!! That's nice! I like it! Who singing? :)

One of my favorite songs ever

So, so you think you can tell
    Heaven from Hell,
    Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
    From a cold steel rail?
    A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
    Your heros for ghosts?
    Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
    Cold comfort for change?
    And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
    We're just two lost souls
    Swimming in a fish bowl,
    Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
    What have we found?
    The same old fears.
    Wish you were here.

nice pick! i have a nice version, i think it was Boeblingen, Germany 11/15/72 that has a slightly different middle section <the solo part>, it was introduced as "Looking Through The Knotholes In Grannys Wooden Leg" :D

    http://geocities.com/cpl_clegg76/PinkFloyd.html

    and another floyd

If I were a swan, I'd be gone.
If I were a train, I'd be late.
And if I were a good man,
    I'd talk with you
    More often than I do.

If I were to sleep, I could dream.
If I were afraid, I could hide.
If I go insane, please don't put
    Your wires in my brain.

If I were the moon, I'd be cool.
If I were a book, I would bend for you.
If I were a good man, I'd understand
    The spaces between friends.

If I were alone, I would cry.
And if I were with you, I'd be home and dry.
    And if I go insane,
    And they lock me away,
Will you still let me join in the game?

If I were a swan, I'd be gone.
If I were a train, I'd be late again.
If I were a good man,
    I'd talk with you
    More often than I do.
    standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
    eager to identify with
    someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way

Please insert UN before each comfortably and we have the perfect song for me. :)

    Hello.
    Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
    Is there anyone home?

    Come on, now.
    I hear you're feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.

    Relax.
    I need some information first.
    Just the basic facts:
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ships smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I cant hear what you're sayin.
    When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I can't explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
    I have become comfortably numb.

    Ok.
    Just a little pinprick. [ping]
    There'll be no more --aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.

    Can you stand up?
I do believe its working. good.
That'll keep you going for the show.
Come on its time to go.

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ships smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I cant hear what you're sayin.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
    I have become comfortably numb.
    NOPE!!!

    Shine on You crazy Diamond

    Remember when you were young,
    You shone like the sun.
    Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes,
Like black holes in the sky.
    Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire
    Of childhood and stardom,
    Blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!

You reached for the secret too soon,
    You cried for the moon.
    Shine on you crazy diamond.
    Threatened by shadows at night,
    And exposed in the light.
    Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome
    With random precision,
    Rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

    Nobody knows where you are,
    How near or how far.
    Shine on you crazy diamond.
    Pile on many more layers
And I'll be joining you there.
    Shine on you crazy diamond.
And we'll bask in the shadow
    Of yesterday's triumph,
And sail on the steel breeze.
    Come on you boy child,
    You winner and loser,
Come on you miner for truth and delusion, and shine!
    standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
    eager to identify with
    someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same

to one of the truly great artists, and an artist that brought social issues to life through art, exceptional art. to the man that didnt play one single concert for money or personal profit after the Beatles broke up. He only performed for fund raisers and benefit concerts. which i find to be truly amazing for a man that could pack a house with the sanp of his fingers. Thank you, your music and legacy ensures you will always be alive, and so will your message of peace and kindness.

check out "The U.S. versus John Lennon" on dvd if you get a chance. it is well worth it. great documentary.

    "Working Class Hero"

As soon as your born they make you feel small
by giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
Working Class Hero is something to be
Working Class Hero is something to be

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you're clever and despise a fool
Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules
Working Class Hero is something to be
Working Class Hero is something to be

When they've tortured and scared you for 20 odd years
then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function you're so full of fear
Working Class Hero is something to be
Working Class Hero is something to be

Keep you doped with religon, sex and T.V.
and you think you're so clever and classless and free
but you're still fucking peasents as far as I can see
Working Class Hero is something to be
Working Class Hero is something to be

There's room at the top I'm telling you still
but first you must learn how to smile as you kill
if you want to be like the folks on the hill
Working Class Hero is something to be

Yes , A Working Class Hero is something to be
If you want to be a hero well just follow me
If you want to be a hero well just follow me

    "Gimme Some Truth"

i'm sick and tired of hearing

all i want is the truth
    just give me some truth
    i've had enough of reading

all i want is the truth
    just give me some truth
    no short haired-yellow bellied
    son of tricky dicky
    is gonna mother hubbard
    soft soap me
with just a pocketful of hope
    money for dope
    money for rope
i'm sick to death of seeing
    things
    from tight lipped-
    condescending -mommies little
    chauvinists
all i want is the truth
    just give me some truth

"Woman is the Nigger of the World"

    Woman is the nigger of
    the world
    Yes she is...think about it
    Woman is the nigger of
    the world
    Think about it...do
    something about it

    We make her paint her
    face and dance
If she won't be slave ,we
say that she don't love us
If she's real, we say she's
    trying to be a man
    While putting her down we
pretend that she is above us
    Woman is the nigger of
    the world...yes she is
If you don't belive me take a
look to the one you're with
    Woman is the slaves of
    the slaves
    Ah yeah...better screem
    about it
We make her bear and raise
    our children
And then we leave her flat for
being a fat old mother hen
We tell her home is the only
    place she would be
    Then we complain that she's
too unworldly to be our friend
    Woman is the nigger of
    the world...yes she is
If you don't belive me take a
look to the one you're with
    Woman is the slaves of
    the slaves
    Yeah (think about it)

We insult her everyday on TV
And wonder why she has no
    guts or confidence
When she's young we kill her
    will to be free
While telling her not to be so
smart we put her down for being so dumb
    Woman is the nigger of
    the world...yes she is
If you don't belive me take a
look to the one you're with
    Woman is the slaves of
    the slaves

    "Happy Xmas, war is over"

    So this is Xmas
    And what have you done
    Another year over
And a new one just begun
    And so this is Xmas
    I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
    The old and the young

    A very Merry Xmas
    And a happy New Year
    Let's hope it's a good one
    Without any fear

And so this is Xmas (war is over)
For weak and for strong (if you want it)
For rich and the poor ones (war is over)
The world is so wrong (if you want it)
And so happy Xmas (war is over)
For black and for white (if you want it)
For yellow and red ones (war is over)
Let's stop all the fight (now)

    A very Merry Xmas
    And a happy New Year
    Let's hope it's a good one
    Without any fear

And so this is Xmas (war is over)
And what have we done (if you want it)
Another year over (war is over)

    "Imagine"

    Imagine there's no heaven
    It's easy if you try
    No hell below us
    Above us only sky
    Imagine all the people
    Living for today...

    Imagine there's no countries
    It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
    And no religion too
    Imagine all the people
    Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

    Imagine no possessions
    I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
    A brotherhood of man
    Imagine all the people
    Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
  • my i.q. ~ ani difranco

when i was four years old
they tried to test my i.q.
    they showed me a picture
of 3 oranges and a pear
    they said,
    which one is different?
    it does not belong
they taught me different is wrong
but when i was 13 years old
    i woke up one morning
    thighs covered in blood
    like a war
    like a warning
that i live in a breakable takeable body
    an ever increasingly valuable body
that a woman had come in the night to replace me
    deface me
    see,
    my body is borrowed
yeah, i got it on loan
for the time in between my mom and some maggots
i don't need anyone to hold me
    i can hold my own
    i got highways for stretchmarks
    see where i've grown
    i sing sometimes
like my life is at stake
    'cause you're only as loud
    as the noises you make
i'm learning to laugh as hard
    as i can listen
    'cause silence
    is violence
    in women and poor people
if more people were screaming then i could relax
but a good brain ain't diddley
if you don't have the facts
we live in a breakable takeable world
    an ever available possible world
    and we can make music
    like we can make do
genius is in a back beat
backseat to nothing if you're dancing
    especially something stupid
    like i.q.
    for every lie i unlearn
    i learn something new
i sing sometimes for the war that i fight
'cause every tool is a weapon -
    if you hold it right.

    coming up

our father who art in a penthouse
sits in his 37th floor suite
    and swivels to gaze down
at the city he made me in
he allows me to stand and
    solicit graffiti until
he needs the land i stand on
    in my darkened threshold
    am pawing through my pockets
    the receipts, the bus schedules
    the matchbook phone numbers
    the urgent napkin poems
all of which laundering has rendered
    pulpy and strange
    loose change and a key
    ask me
go ahead, ask me if i care
    i got the answer here
    i wrote it down somewhere
    i just gotta find it
    i just gotta find it

somebody and their spray paint got too close
    somebody came on too heavy
now look at me made ugly
    by the drooling letters
    i was better off alone
ain't that the way it is
they don't know the first thing
    but you don't know that
until they take the first swing
my fingers are red and swollen from the cold
i'm getting bold in my old age
so go ahead, try the door
    it doesn't matter anymore
i know the weak hearted are strong willed
and we are being kept alive
    until we're killed
    he's up there the ice
    is clinking in his glass
he sends me little pieces of paper
    i don't ask
i just empty my pockets and wait
    it's not fate
    it's just circumstance
i don't fool myself with romance
    i just live
    phone number to phone number
    dusting them against my thighs
in the warmth of my pockets
    which whisper history incessantly
    asking me
    where were you

    i lower my eyes
    wishing i could cry more
    and care less,
    yes it's true,
i was trying to love someone again,
    i was caught caring,
    bearing weight

but i love this city, this state
    this country is too large
and whoever's in charge up there
had better take the elevator down
and put more than change in our cup
    or else we
    are coming
    up

Wait until the war is over
And we're both a little older
    The unknown soldier

Breakfast where the news is read
    Television children fed
    Unborn living, living, dead
    Bullet strikes the helmet's head

    And it's all over
    For the unknown soldier
    It's all over
    For the unknown soldier

    Hut
    Hut
    Hut ho hee up
    Hut
    Hut
    Hut ho hee up
    Hut
    Hut
    Hut ho hee up
    Comp'nee
    Halt
    Preeee-zent!
    Arms!

Make a grave for the unknown soldier
    Nestled in your hollow shoulder
    The unknown soldier

Breakfast where the news is read
    Television children fed
    Bullet strikes the helmet's head

    And, it's all over
    The war is over
    It's all over
    The war is over
    Well, all over, baby
    All over, baby
    Oh, over, yeah
    All over, baby
    Wooooo, hah-hah
    All over
    All over, baby
    Oh, woa-yeah
    All over
    All over
    Heeeeyyyy

    Conversion, software version 7.0,
Looking at life through the eyes of a tire hub,
Eating seeds as a past time activity,
The toxicity of our city, of our city,

New, what do you own the world?
How do you own disorder, disorder,
Now, somewhere between the sacred silence,
    Sacred silence and sleep,
Somewhere, between the sacred silence and sleep,
    Disorder, disorder, disorder.

More wood for their fires, loud neighbors,
Flashlight reveries caught in the headlights of a truck,
Eating seeds as a past time activity,
The toxicity of our city, of our city,

New, what do you own the world?
How do you own disorder, disorder,
Now, somewhere between the sacred silence,

  • Er, can I add two of my political-ish songs, if that's okay?

    Naughts and Ones

Here we go, now. They're dealing with naughts and ones again:
    Dystopia or bliss,
    The isn't or the is.
It's just a binary of lies.

Do you see how they're trading in West and East again?
    Old freedom versus fear,
    while apocalypse draws near
    (cathodes burning out our eyes)?

Oh, how these myths can serve to spread
    the law of naughts and ones;
but how might Freedom help the dead?
    Bring back all fallen sons?

    Unseen mothers, unmarked graves.
All these naughts will count as one the free world never saves...

That's just the dumb show. Wait for the play they'll stage again:
    The slow decline of Rome
    and an emperor in shame.
How we know that sad demise.

    and:

    Raven Star

Purify the last book with fire: the heretics have twisted the Word.
There’ll be no last war, nor a final score that’ll tally the chosen and damned.
Show the pious and proud man, a liar: show the lawmaker, breaking his code.
Follow them no more, find your deep heart core as the store of all judgments planned.

Turn away from false prophets, fearmongering for profits.
Turn away from the marketplace preachers of a Last Day of blood.
Hear your heart call the wisdom deep inside all:
That the Great Day must dawn, from our good.

There’s a raven star over me, and I swear it’s a man made omen, mere prey in the sky.
It’s an angel who’ll sound the last day, not a raven star priest with our death in his eye.

Close down the temples that deal with the warlords who pray as they steal.
Close down the places when men with red faces cry “freedom” before they cry “kill”.
Know that The Light is real, in your heart as the blood you can feel.
The last book tells lies: men seek to disguise their methods of hate as God’s will.

Find The Way in acceptance, Find The Truth in forgiveness,
Find The Light in a heart that won’t hate, that refuses to fear.
But don’t pander to the devil-as-commander:
The chief of the nation, the father of tears.

There’s a raven star over me, and I swear it’s a man made omen, mere prey in the sky.
It’s an angel who’ll sound the last day, not a raven star priest with our death in his eye.

Of course it's ok, we'd be honored! :)

    These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
    And always will be
    Some day you'll return to
    Your valleys and your farms
    And you'll no longer burn
    To be brothers in arms

    Through these fields of destruction
    Baptisms of fire
    Ive watched all your suffering
    As the battles raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
    In the fear and alarm
    You did not desert me
    My brothers in arms

    Theres so many different worlds
    So many differents suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the suns gone to hell
    And the moons riding high
    Let me bid you farewell
    Every man has to die
But its written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
    Were fools to make war
    On our brothers in arms

    I'm on a roll,
I'm on a roll this time
I feel my luck could change.

    Kill me Sarah,
    kill me again with love,
it's gonna be a glorious day.

Pull me out of the aircrash,
Pull me out of the lake,
    I'm your superhero,
we are standing on the edge.

The head of state has called for me by name
but I don't have time for him.
It's gonna be a glorious day!
I feel my luck could change.

Pull me out of the aircrash,
Pull me out of the lake,

  • blood in the boardroom ~ ani difranco

    sitting in the boardroom
    the i'm-so-bored room
    listening to the suits
    talk about their world
    they can make straight lines
    out of almost anything
    except for the line
of my upper lip when it curls
dressed in my best greasy skin
    and squinty eyes
i'm the only part of summer here
    that made it inside
    in the air-conditioned building
    decorated with corporate flair
    i wonder
can these boys smell me bleeding
    though my underwear

    there's men wearing the blood
    of the women they love
there's white wearing the blood of the brown
but every woman learns to bleed from the moon
and we bleed to renew life
    every time it's cut down
i got my vertebrae all stacked up
    as high as they go
i but i still feel myself sliding
from the earth that i know
so i excuse myself and leave the room
    say my period came early
but it's not a minute too soon

i go and find the only other woman on the floor
is the secretary sitting at the desk by the door
i ask her if she's got a tampon i could use
    she says
oh honey, what a hassle for you
    sure i do
    you know i do
    i say
it ain't no hassle, no, it ain't no mess
right now it's the only power
    that i possess
    these businessmen got the money
they got the instruments of death
    but i can make life
    i can make breath
    sitting in the boardroom
    the i'm-so-bored room
listening to the suits talk about their world
i didn't really have much to say
the whole time i was there
so i just left a big brown bloodstain
    on their white chair
