This is a program where candidates can pinpoint exactly where they stand the issues so there's no confusion or room for double speaking. I think it's a great way to keep voters educated on exactly who they are voting for and what they stand for. I mean, what could be the reason for not putting your stances out there??

It's great in theory, but politicians simply switch positions anytime it is to their political advantage. I'm in favor of the "None of the above" option that many people have suggested.
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

    Cool, Thanks for the link.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.
  • i LIKE this. :)
i realize politicians can simply say what the y think voters want to hear...but they still can't pander to ALL interests at the same time, so at the very least...could have some idea of what they truly think, and thus may vote, on a variety of issues. why CAN'T it be this easy to compare candidates? i would LOVE to see it REQUIRED for all possible candidates to have to submit to such before they can even be considered candidates....would be excellent. i mean, we are voting for these people to represent OUR interests...it would be nice to know on some level, what their thoughts, and possible future actions, may be. it's a DAMN shame all would not submit tehir answers.....i certainly have a bit more respect for all who did, whether i agree with their answers or not.
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...

well if you're hard up for some x's next to statements that didn't originate from the candidate, you could check out his old one, which i'm sure you've done already, but just in case:

    http://www.vote-smart.org/npat.php?old=true&can_id=BS030017&npatform_id=69#0

i want to say that he referenced this quiz in audacity of hope and that it ended up frustrating him because issues are more complex than those statements and putting x's next to statements don't do the issues justice. however, i can't reference a page now or anything, but correct me if i'm wrong there.

I thought the questions were quite detailed and broke the issues down. It was like are you for or against whatever. They also allowed for slightly, greatly, maintain options for some issues.
The fact that many of the more weasely Dems decided not to answer this go round only reafirms my disgust with they way they campaign. They spin their platform depending on what crowd they're in front of or which state they're in. They also have a knack for running as liberals then working as Republicans once in office. This questionaire is a way to get them to actually put down what they think for us all to see. Dems have become notorious for running on whatever suits the situation at the moment, nobody knows what they even stand for most of the time. It's dishonest and it's the reason so many choose third party options. hell, I'd almost rather vote for a Republican who at least owns up to where she/he stands than a Dem who wants to have his cake and eat it, too. At least the Republican wasn't trying to put on a front and be something he's not. It looks like, if Kucinich doesn't get the nod, I'm voting third party out of no faith at all in the Democratic party.

not only were the questions pretty detailed but they all ended w/ an 'other' option where they could write out in greater detail their thoughts on the particular issue...newt did this a lot in his even tho he still filled it out

The big thing I disagree with Paul is about oil. In order to maintain self-reliance, and get away from foreign dependence on oil, he would drill in Alaska. I don't know that he knows all the facts, and it seems to me like he would be the kind of guy to get his facts straight on something like that. I'm talking about the paltry offerings and the cost it would entail to drill there for a very short term benefit.

you mean like increasing the fuel efficency standard just 3 more miles ot the gallon would save even more oil than even the best estimates of alaska?

Well, his lips move one way, his eyes don't blink, and his jarvik is equipped with a microchip that recieves pulses from a satellite in space that was financed by the American people, yet owned by Halliburton. It's all connected.

And, if you believe him, it's cost-effective, too.
