"David Wetzel was told to contact a revenue official and apply for a license as a "special fuel supplier" and "receiver." After completing a complicated application form designed for businesses, David Wetzel was sent a letter directing him to send in a $2,500 bond.
Eileen Wetzel, a former teaching assistant, calculated that the bond, designed to ensure that their "business" pays its taxes, would cover the next 51 years at their present usage rate."
yeah 51 years of fuel taxes demanded all at once...and the guys is 79 years old...omfg...
Yeah here we have some old retired guy trying to save a few bucks and the environment, and the govt sends two thugs to his front door to extort money from him
This is like right out of the books of italian mafia business practices...
the article also went on to say
On the department of revenue's Web site, David Wetzel discovered that the definition of special fuel supplier includes someone who operates a plant with an "active bulk storage capacity of not less than 30,000 gallons." Wetzel also did not fit the definition of a receiver, described as a person who produces, distributes or transports fuel into the state. So Wetzel withdrew his application to become a supplier and receiver.
so he can't use his car until he gets a license he doesn't even qualify for!?standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
eager to identify with
someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way0 -

I'd stop trying to figure the states side in this. It'll give you a headache and make you angrier.0 -

lol....there's wisdom to be had in those words. There gotta be something missing from this story....it just all seems so ridiculous and outright crazy.Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

people are actually surprised that a politician doesnt care about the people? this has been standard operating procedure for a few thousand years0

Glad they are going to fix it.
I can see the sense in the state requiring some sort of permit to drive a self-modified vehicle eventually, though they could make it much easier for common modifications. Without some sort of regulation some bad potentially dangerous homemade stuff could show up on the streets.
As far as taxes, they should get a tax break IMO to promote the transfer to clean/alternate fuels.0
