DOn't we usually complain about leaders surrounding themselves with only 1 voice and 'yes' men and women?
I'll never understand the two-faced attacks. Damn if you do, and damned if you don't.
Anyhow, I think it's great that his economic advisor is more conservative...I hope it leads to a conservative fiscal policy...a real one.
it's basic politics. move to your base in the primaries. move back toward the center in the general. he wants to get in office and if he does, i suspect he'll move a little more to the left. if we can get a workign majority in congress and a democratic president, you'll see them work together to push for the environmental initiatives that we need, the need for health care reform etc. He's never going to be progressive enough for some people, but he'll get a hell of a lot more done than McCain.

the problem with those "opinions" he wrote is that they are wrong and have zero factual basis. opinion needs factual basis to be valid in my world. not to mention he tried to pass off his opinion as fact. and he does an extremely poor job at doing that, providing ZERO factual basis on the 2 topics i have spoke on...
he says he steered right on the death penalty issue. wrong, he has always maintained the same position.
and the fathers day thing? wow did he twist that one all to hell... almost laughable how far the author stretched that one... not to mention Obama was speaking the friggin truth...
His opinions were based on facts, he just didn't reach the same conclusions you did.
Any response on Jason Furman or do you prefer to gloss over that like it's nothing?

As Obama's economic policy director, Furman said his priority would be to expand the range of advice and proposals flowing to the presumptive Democratic nominee by reaching out to a wider group of economists.
``My key mandate, which came directly from the senator, is to bring him a diverse set of voices and ideas, because that's the kind of debate he likes to hear to make up his mind about his economic agenda,'' Furman said. He named Rubin, former Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers and former Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Alan Blinder as advisers the campaign would turn to.
Obama is trying to get as many differing opinions as possible. Furman is not setting the agenda. Obama does not need to take even one of his ideas if he chooses not to.
He is more then qualified for this position. I don't see a problem here and it's not a sign of Obama=McCain.

And I do think this is another sign of how Obama and McCain are more alike than different.

If he was setting Obama's ecnonomic policy then I would disagree with the appointment. But having a qualified person with years of experience as part of his staff is not a problem.
Its been stated everywhere that Obama is not counting on taking just one opinion to form his policies. In order for that to be effective you need to have a wider range of opinions so you can make the best possible decision. If he had everyone on his staff think just like him then whats the point have even having a staff?

It's Obama's job to make sure his economic policies match his social policies. If Obama gives money to Walmart he's failed. If one of his economic advisers supports Walmart but it doesn't effect policy then its not an issue.

No, I didn't act like anything. I was quite direct in what I said.
I don't know how his economic policies can match his supposed social policies (rhetoric) if he appoints a person whose history directly conflicts with what he has been saying. But hey, Obama's became a master at saying one thing while doing another....so I guess you guys are just used to up being the new down by now.

I don't really care about Obama's father's day speech. It's only a ploy to get attention and votes. I didn't see him giving these 'controversial' speeches up until now. I think it's phoney concern from an extremely inauthentic politician but that's just my opinion.

he actually lived it abbok. he was raised by a single mother after his father took off leaving them both. i dont think that is inauthentic. i believe he was speaking from personal experience and commenting on one of the social ills of our day that is as blatant as the sun rising, absent coward fathers that are not worth a pile of shit.

No problem, glad to help. I'm afraid, however, that most people wont read past the first sentence once they realize it's not about Obama's driving habits -- except perhaps the few Nadernuts around here that would believe Obama is Satan's bastard child if they read it in a blog or saw it on a yourtube video.

Do I really have to say I'm speaking in general terms for you to realize it? I figured that is always implied seeing as how it is ridiculous to think that everyone inside a group feels the exact same way about anything. Yes, the left is generally anti-death penalty BUT not every single person who is a leftist is anti-death penalty. There, happy?
Stating the obvious can be so much fun!
Anyways, back to justifying the death penalty. Sure, if some hideous crime happened to someone in my family I might suddenly support the death penalty in that case but that would be based on my emotional reaction and distress, all subjective not based on my clear-headed thoughts on the issue of the death penalty and the objective views I have on the matter based on what I know to be wrong.
