I modified my thread headline to be more specific, since it was apparently at a Palin rally where the most offensive heckle was made.

    I saw that earlier on CNN, it's pretty pathetic. and the way so many in the crowd started to laugh. I'm sure many many other words were yelled.

    The odd thing is the more nasty McCain gets it appears the more Obama's stretches his lead.

  • What's the big deal? It's not like McCain was the one saying it or endorsed it.

    It's sad that one ignorant person thought it would be funny but I don't see how it reflects on McCain, his campaign, or the majority of his supporters.

    Well, I guess it's not really a big deal when an audience member suggests one of the Presidential nominees should be killed.

    Sarcasm aside, I do see what you're getting at--McCain didn't suggest killing Barack Obama. However, his words did seem to muster up the sentiment--albeit unintentionally.

    I've been thinking about whether the McCain campaign's distortion of facts, which is obviously aimed at inciting fear in the public or at the very least a grave distrust in Obama, actually does implicate him a little more than "well, it was just some idiots in the crowd." I'm not suggesting McCain's speech should be limited so as to prevent misinterpretations by moron America, such would be unconstitutional. But I do think it's kind of an interesting circumstance. At the very least, it seems irresponsible, no?

    (Of course, that is assuming that you believe any alleged connections between Obama and Ayer are fairly innocuous and unthreatening, which I do.)

    Could the same argument be made when we combine this with the misinformation circulating that Obama is a Muslim? How about when coupled with charges that he's deeply involved with a domestic terrorist?

    Not that I believe someone actually stupid enough to yell something aloud on national television about how a leading governmental figure should be killed would actually be capable of doing it himself...

    I dunno, just leaves me with a bad feeling. Not only about the type of campaign McCain is running, but that the American public (or at least a significant portion of it) will not be able to see through the lazy and dishonest tactics.

    /end rambling.

    Lady PjG some beautiful words there from I believe Bob Marley. This Presidential Race is quickly turning into another Bob Marley classic...RAT RACE

    Uh! Ya too rude!
    Uh! Eh! OH What a rat race!
    Oh, what a rat race!
    Oh, what a rat race!
    Oh, what a rat race!
    This is the rat race! Rat race! (Rat race!)

    Some a lawful, some a bastard, some a jacket:
    Oh, what a rat race, yeah! Rat race!

    Some a gorgon-a, some a hooligan-a, some a guine-gog-a
    In this 'ere rat race, yeah!
    Rat race!
    I'm singin' that
    When the cat's away,
    The mice will play.
    Political voilence fill ya city, ye-ah!
    Don't involve Rasta in your say say;
    Rasta don't work for no C.I.A.
    Rat race, rat race, rat race! Rat race, I'm sayin':
    When you think is peace and safety:
    A sudden destruction.
    Collective security for surety, ye-ah!

    Don't forget your history;
    Know your destiny:
    In the abundance of water,
    The fool is thirsty.
    Rat race, rat race, rat race!

    Rat race!
    Oh, it's a disgrace
    To see the human-race
    In a rat race, rat race!
    You got the horse race;
    You got the dog race;
    You got the human-race;
    But this is a rat race, rat race!

    I'll say this much if McCain DOES NOT look at Obama in the eye tonight he's sending a clear signal to those who may want to continue their hate towards Obama are going to do so.

    Something is clearly wrong there.

  • The problem with how nasty these campaigns have gotten, paticularly McCain's camp, is that these people are going to be expected to work together after the election.

    It's as if they actually want you to hate the other side. I don't know how many McCain supporters I've spoken with who clearly hate Obama and feel he's an evil person. Now, I don't like McCain by any stretch, but he's not evil, and neither is Obama.

    How the hell are we all supposed to get along when we are goaded into this kind of blatant hatred for the other side every election cycle? :mad:

    Obama needs to ask McCain if he thinks hes a terrorist outright at the debates tonight.
  • The point is that he clearly heard it and didn't say anything. He knows that's not true. He could've at least given a little "No, no...settle down" gesture or something.

    I bet it disgusts McCain that these are his audiences. I doubt he'd ever spend time with these types of people if he weren't campaigning.

    "Worse, Palin's routine attacks on the media have begun to spill into ugliness. In Clearwater, arriving reporters were greeted with shouts and taunts by the crowd of about 3,000. Palin then went on to blame Katie Couric's questions for her "less-than-successful interview with kinda mainstream media." At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, "Sit down, boy." "

    I just can't see how they are going to benefit by attacking the media so much. It's a hard fight to win.

    Granted, it gets the base all fired up, but they are voting for them anyway.

    Wow...I've been youtubing some of these recent solo Palin rallies and it is kind of surprising. There's no doubt that presidential elections have alot of malice and anger involved in them, but in watching these recent speeches, I cannot think of a presidential or vice presidential candidate who has been so openly contemptous of such a large portion of the electorate. It's striking and kind of frightening to see that amount of open hatred on the part of a possible nominee. Take McCain; he clearly has no love for Obama, but you don't regularly see him display outright contempt for those New York liberals, those East-coasters. Sure, you hear him talk about the liberal media elite (what else is new), but Palin goes even further. She not only inspires supporters to love her, she is inspiring supporters to hate not only the opposing candidate, but the opposing political side. That's happened in the past before, but I can't remember a nominee in recent history overtly pushing that forward.

    I mean, imagine Joe Biden talking about the divisive nature and dangerous politics of those "redneck, middle-American terrorist sympathizers." I mean, I don't expect Palin to agree with those ACLU-loving progressive liberals, but for Christ's sake, she's a VP CANDIDATE. She is not supposed to seemingly and publicly hate so much of the electorate.
