McDowell wrong to blame judges
GARDAI agreed to bail for at least two members of the gang belonging to murdered criminal Martin Hyland in the High Court, The Sunday Times has learnt.
The revelation will come as a real embarrassment to Michael McDowell, the justice minister, who implied last week that judges were to blame for granting bail applications to 23 out of 24 significant “players” in Hyland’s crime operation.
The drug dealer was shot dead last Tuesday in a double murder alongside Anthony Campbell, 20, a plumber and an innocent bystander.
On Friday McDowell said some judges were perceived by serious criminals to be “soft on bail”, and he claimed that accused persons often waited for these judges to appear “on the list” before making a bail application.... (see the link for the rest of the article)
