The levels of irony were so complex, they were like an Escher drawing.
But I really miss Reg Varney...
Somewhere around here I have a Steptoe and Son, I think, "The Blood Donor Clinic" on vinyl...no - it wasn't them, it was someone else, Tony someone...Tony Hancock? Does that sound right...
Oh - and I really liked the Goodies!! the clown soup was my favourite....

I think the greatest satirist since Peter Cook, and the only person who comes close is Chris Morris - The Day Today, Brass Eye.
There's also a recording of the two of them - Chris Morris interviews Peter Cook. It's called 'Why bother', and is hilarious.
Edit: I often imagine hosting a banquet where I can invite about ten of my chosen guests, either living or dead. Along with people such as Henry Miller, Bukowski, Burroughs, Dostoevsky e.t.c, I'd include Peter Cook, and Bill Hicks.
