Before, during, and after the democratic party really way a party of death. They lynched black people who opposed their wanting slavery. They killed those who voted republican. They wanted to keep slavery. The republican party where the "hippies" of the time, pushing for abolishment of slavery. Fast foward to modern times. Now the democratic party is viewed as the hippie party and the republicans are viewed as a starched, violent party. Funny how these things change so drastically...which leads me to my point.

I propose that for the good of the american people and for better government that all political party titles no longer be put to use. They do nothing than allow people to drown in their own biases (myself included unfortuntely). Party titles blind the public to factual information because they would rather have untruths and the knowledge of the talking heads than actually agree with someone from the opposing party. This is pathetic. We are currently in a Civil War of a political type. America is divided. And what is it divided by most intensely? On rather you're a democrat or a republican. By the way, it doesn't matter what you are today because in a hundred years you're going to be something else.

George Wallace was a Democrat. So was Strom Thurmond (until he switched parties in the 60s).
Both parties are shit and anyone who vote strictly along party lines is an idiot. We're supposed to do a little fucking work and try to figure out who is best for our country (or more like, who will do the least amount of damage to her), not because the fat-ass elephant or the jack-ass tells you who to vote for.

    Hear, hear! Nice post!

I've often expounded on our Coke vs Pepsi way of life. It would seem Americans just can't handle a bunch of choices. Hershey or Nestle. McDonalds or Burger King. Exxon or ... Exxon. And so that is how our political life has been shaped, the parties are very much in the business of keeping themselves in business and so have an effective monopoly on this game.

While confusing as heck, I'm facinated by all the other governments out there with a profusion of parties, none of which gets a majority vote -- lo' and behold, they must then form Coalitions and Blocks and whatnot to rule.

I would love to see extreme left and right split off into their own thang, cause then moderates would rule! But as John Stewart kinda said, "Extremists run the show cause moderates are too busy working!" I don't think libertarian or green party votes are wasted, we NEED to back third parties to get them established.

But my number one recommendation for the ballot: None of the Above.
Just give us that option to send the parties back to the conventions to pick new candidates if "None of the Above" wins!

That is an interesting question and one that I am really curious about studying more. Why has this shift or switch occured?

And someone brought up this question about politics here in Alabama, on a forum I have recently joined, http://www.urbanplanet.org, why do most of the citizens vote Democrat on the state and local level, but vote Republican in national elections?
