Whats your take on it? Is it a real pheomenon?

I think its overblown, certainly there are some people out there who drink each others blood and pray to Satan and practice black magic and such, but I dont think they number in the millions.

I think its overblown, because hardly anyone who listens to Heavy metal or plays dungeons and dragons or reads Harry potter or who listens to Marilyn Manson, or reads Stephen King etc... is a satanist.

How widespread is this? How many satanists are out there do you think?

A lot (if not all) of the cases of alleged Satanic cults were debunked. There was a lot of hysteria involved in the '80s, and several cases featured testimonies by children who were heavily lead by the interviewers.

Not real. There was a lot of hysteria around here for years, but no actual cases. It sure had Christians in a tizzy.

Satanism is a word which has been used since the end of the Middle Ages to describe a number of different belief systems in a number of contexts. People claiming to be Satanists—or outsiders claiming to describe Satanism—ascribe a wide variety of beliefs to Satanism. These range from the literal worship of a malevolent spiritual being (Theistic Satanism); to a kind of subversive ritual performance stressing the mockery of Christian symbols (most notably the Black Mass); to the claimed rediscovery of an ancient but misunderstood religion (e.g. Setianism, which conflates Satan with the Egyptian god Set); to the exaltation of hedonistic recreation, and the celebration of selfishness and pleasure.



Most of the "satanist" I know are of the hedonistic type. This means that they don't worship anything, they just perscribe to the belief of doing what ever they want when they want, no matter who it effects.

It's better described as the worship of Self.



PPS. Ritual abuse is not adhering to the teachings of the Church of Satan, which is strictly against child abuse, rape or any other fully harmful sadistic act, especially to children. Consensual S&M between adults is advocated on the grounds that it is a form of self-gratification.

if you are aware of the self, then can and would you if you do know this, explain this concept about multiple egos...it has seemed to me that people tend to think there is only one destructive ego and i am discovering that theres different dimensions of ego. waz up with this idea?

I went to high school with a girl who went "missing" during college in I think 1989. It was later found out that her therapist had arranged for her to go underground away from her parents that were performing "satanic ritual abuse". Her brother was also seeing this therapist and reported that the therapist was planting information to them during sessions.

Long story short, her Mom just found her last year. The girl has missed 15+ yrs with her family and her father has since passed away. They have talked on the phone but it seems that the girls may still be somewhat afraid of her parents.

The therapist lost her license and went on the run too.

:eek: I was talking to a guy one night in a pub (I was waiting for the people I was meeting and then couldn't get rid of him) and he said he'd been working for the Samaritans for a while until a high profile case he'd been working on ended in the girl committing suicide. I felt quite sorry for him as he was telling me but then as he went on and as the drinks flowed, it emerged how he's into all that satan worshipping and by the end of the night I was convinced he's a complete psychopath :eek: and was left in no doubt as to how the girl managed to kill herself despite the fact she'd been seeking help :eek: . He was saying how homosexuality is completely unnatural and disgusting and I had to ask does he say that to confused people who may have called him and he replied 'oh of course not'. And then he was saying how it's only natural that he, as a father, loves his son more than his daughter and can't really bond with his daughter
