Tuning out/not watching the news

Anyone feel its just so overwhelming that it's better not to watch the news or read the newspaper at all?

I have found this to be true, and no longer watch the news, read the paper, or visit political websites. Its just too depressing and crazy at this point.

The only news source I am looking to is for laughs...The Onion, and thats it.

I have found that quite a few people as a result of the world situation are increasingly doing exactly that, tuning out and not reading anything political.

I think that recent report about fish forced me on this media blackout, scientists studied like 500 fish in as many rivers and oceans, and tested to see how many were contaminated with toxins and chemicals. As far as I know the report showed that 100 percent were contaminated. Yes 100 percent!

I encourage you all to at least try this. Reading the paper, day after day, is depressing. Go out and DO SOMETHING!

I do this a couple of times a year. I never plan it or anything but I suddenly cannot even bring myself to watch/read news. It lasts about a week, typically.
I cannot come up with a new sig till I get this egg off my face.

Same here. I haven't watched television news in years and years, because it's so dumbed down and inflammatory. I'll take a brief vacation from print news once in a while, but it never lasts long. Curiosity gets the best of me.

never watch the local news, ever. its just much too sensationalized for my taste. the promos are enough to drive me insane.

if i want to know whats going on, i'll flip on CNN or get my news from various internet sites. mostly i read the newspaper.

i don't look at it as tuning out, just selective as to where i get my info.

we are supposed to get a couple inches of snow here tomorrow and all damn day long all you have heard is 'white death' is coming.
the TV was on at work so i had no choice. its utterly ridiculous.

Ignoring it won't make it go away. But I agree sometimes you need to get away from it. I do it every year... everything I go on camping or hitchhiking.

I watch my local news for the weather and that's it. I'll usually check a couple web sites through out the day to get my news but televised news is a joke.

I watch the news from time to time for entertainment and don't take much of it seriously. Except the weather. I had a good laugh the other day when the big news was that "A new report is out that humans, yes humans are now noted as being the cause for global warming." I mean, the whole tone of everything reported is like a comedian is reporting it and the public is purely being taken for a ride.

I do like the BBC news once in a while for some real news for a change though.

I guess I am. It's much better than American mainstream news...which doesn't say much, I guess.
