Anyone here actually in new york on that day, or know anyone who was in the towers?

I have family in New Jersey, and had a teacher in high school who lost a friend in the towers.

No, but I did eat a lot of Rubio's during those days, and I remember that they lost an advertising executive that day. I don't want to sound too sensationalistic, but I remember being extremely pissed off about that.

I remember seeing it on television. I wasn't there. But I saw the second plane as it happened on TV, as I'm sure many people did. Actually if my Dad didn't watch TV, I would have found out later that day, it was all the talk. Anyway, it seemed surreal to me and that's exactly what my dad said. I never asked "Why did this happen?" I asked "What happens next?" as if it were a movie and not reality. I have to admit that it still doesn't impact me to the degree it affected Americans or New Yorkers. But I did have this feeling for a few days, and I would imagine storefronts exploding in-front of me.

worked across the river in jersey city, was in the concourse leading from the path train to the subway at roughly 2:30 AM. not a day goes by where i don't think about that and how i could have been there if i started work at 9 am instead of working nights.

After reading the 9/11 Commission Report, I am VERY angry that the IC allowed for so much to pass by them, they could of prevented the whole thing from happening.

I don't know anyone who was there, but I do feel terrible for all the families who lost a member in the attacks. I went to NYC a couple years ago, and it was mind boggling/humbling to see the area in which the towers stood on.

I was in Grade 7 at the time and I remember it perfectly to this day. Thankfully I didnt know anyone who lost their life or a family member in the towers but I remember at first thinking it was an accedent and then realising it was a terrorist attack. I'll never forget hearing about a little girl and her father in the park trying to get further away from the debris and the buildings when the second plane crashed and she said "Look daddy, they are doing it on purpose" that just broke my heart.

My first thoughts were, "Shit, they finally got us," and "It's going to be a pain in the ass to get on base."
  • had a view down fifth avenue ...

i still remember from the street it looked like something out of a movie ... at 9:00 i decided to go back to my desk. with that, i get a weird feeling since i wonder what it would have felt like to see plane #2 had i waited 2 more minutes.

I lost a friend that day. She worked at Marsh McClellan on the 101st fl of WTC 1. Another of my friends worked for Duetche Bank right across the street from WTC.

Had four friends from Stanley Morgan who all got out.

Another who worked for Lehman Brothers who was supposed to be in the Towers but was caught up in a meeting at a different branch so he never made it to the Towers.

And my college roommate's freshman year roommate was one of the few people who survived from Cantor Fitzgerald. That was the advertising firm near the top of one of the Towers. He never made it to work. He got too drunk and stoned watching the Broncos Giants MNF football game on tv the night before that he missed his train and finally got to the Towers just as they started evacuating them so he never went upstairs. Everyone who was in his office that day died. The only people who survived were him, a couple people on vacation and a couple people who called in sick.

I was working as a para for Freid Frank Harris Shriver and Jacobsen (the Shriver is the Govenator's Father-in-Law). About 6 blocks south of ground zero. i walked in excess of a hundred blocks out of NYC that day. No injures personally had some close friends get treated for smoke and dust inhalation. self preservation was the first and foremost thought. I kept thinking if they had gotten to a point that they had planned all of the plane hijacking and such, that guide on attacks (suicide bombers in succession moving amongst the throngs crossing the bridges and ferries) were a real possibility. I avoided crowds and did not listen to the NYPD attempting to herd me across the bridge into brooklyn/queens. As I meandered through chinatown and the village north I passed McSorely's and figured if the world is going I am having a beer. I had 4, and caught some of the news as they had a TV. Still in shock not sure what had happened. Crashed at a friend of a friends place on Upper West until trains started running, finally got back to the Bronx and my car about 12 hours after the first tower fell. Hopped in my car and drove 2 hours upstate to my family. Lower manhattan was closed for a week, when I finally returned to work the stench that hung over the city was like nothing I have experienced anywhere else in my life. Even now I can sit here at my computer and know that that is what death and war smell like.
