Now that it is finally clear she is mulling running for prez in 2008, is it possible she will win?

To me, if she ran, she was always the front runner in my mind.

She has
1. the money
2. The name recognition
3. power that others like Edwards, obama and biden dont have

I think she is more than likely going to win if she runs.

She doesn't stand a chance in hell. And here is why:

    1. Doesn't matter about 'money'. Her campaign is funded by the DNC--she doesn't have the funds to lay cash on top of it. The Clintons are still paying lawyer fees for the legal shit Bill got into.
    2. Name recognition might not work in her favor. Her hubby rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.
    3. As far as what the others 'don't have'--that is just wrong. There is more hype and influence around Obama then her by a long shot.
    4. And ladies, please don't get mad, but she is lady. The US is not progressive enough to elect a woman right now. One day, maybe, but now? No way.
  • I think the US is progressive enough to elect a woman for Pres. but shes not going to be the one. Too many strikes against her.

I'd like to think that too. But you're right, even if we were, she isn't the one...and I have no idea who would be.

I agree that she would get clobbered.

    1. She may have the money.
    2. The name recognition may help as some people today long for the days of Clinton in office.
    3. I agree. Obama has a lot of momentum (if he runs) and there are always 1 to 3 people that come out of nowhere.
    4. I agree, somewhat. There could be a female president, but she'd have to be conservative and in particular not be a feminist in any way.

Nobody likes her. They hated her in 1992 for not being June Cleaver and they hate her now for any of several, more legitimate, reasons.

If she wins the nomination, they may as well skip the general election.

And I may as well stop typing this and just put it in my sig: Hey Democrats! Run a Governor. Sitting Senators do not win Presidential elections. Their voting records are too open to intellectually dishonest sound-byte scruitiny.
I cannot come up with a new sig till I get this egg off my face.
  • If McCain throws his hat in nobody stands a chance, a lot of people from both sides love that guy.

She will automatically be the Democrat front-runner if/when she declares. But she is not electible on a national stage. Lefty Dems don't like her hawkish pro-war stance. Righty Reps think she's an ultra-liberal. Middle America is put off by her personality. She stands absolutely no chance of winning. I'm sure the Republicans are hoping she gets the nod.

Hillary's a great presidential candidate, although she won't win. Sheesh, if we couldn't get Bush out this last election, and there's rumours of rigged elections and electronic voting systems breaking, then for sure the Republicans are going to try their magic at rigging the next election so she can't win. Plus middle America won't let it happen, unfortunately.
  • well at least she's already had a good bit of dirty linen aired in public... I'm sure there's not much left for them to throw at her.. unless they were saving stuff for her to run.

I'm surprised at her throwing her hat in the ring, maybe 2012 was just too long for her to wait. She IS quite attractive for her age, another 4 years may get rid of THAT slight advantage cos we all know how judgmental people are towards women in every way. Too much of a feminish, not feminist enough, blah blah blah!!!

We love the Clintons over here so I'm sure all the Irish Americans may vote for her, god knows they've done enough to secure THAT vote.

Like someone else said though, Middle America will NOT let her win... no way! There'd be civil war!

i actually think she would have a chance. people tend to forget the hostile climate in ny in which she ran. she won over people from upstate (and just look at the recent percentage of victory here). ny is a huge state and there are many different types of people here--upstate is a different climate than downstate. if she could win over upstaters, who knows. she has also gained a lot of respect in the senate working on a bipartisan level and all. i really think she'd have a chance. many hard core republicans wouldn't vote for any democrat no matter who ran. she could win a lot of support i believe.

now obama, i think of him kinda as a bobby kennedy type. he could come into the race later, antiwar guns blazing. and he has so much charisma and people are drawn to him. my grandma who still calls people colored and voted for bush twice voted for him for senator.

and if a civil war should erupt over this, then i say so be it! :)

The Republicans have no chance of winning this election unless the Democrats nominate either Hillary or Obama. Hillary because she is a woman and Obama because he is black. Both of them would still have a chance against McCain but not against Guiliani. McCain will probably get the nomination for the Republicans and get trounced by Edwards or Gore if he decides to run again. I don't see the Democrats taking a chance on slipping in a first-ever candidate when they know they have a slam dunk winner if they just nominate a white male who is not a Republican because even disgruntled Republicans are ready to vote for that guy.

hillary won't win. If she gets the nod from dems, she'll get destroyed. I don't doubt she can carry the primaries b/c typically the general public doesn't vote in the primaries at a high percentage. She would get destroyed in the national election. I'm calling it now...obama v guiliani.

  • hillary is a wolf in sheep's clothing. she supported a ban on flag burning, so she is NOT a liberal.

i hope she does not win the primaries, because i donlt think she could win the general election....just liek kerry.

Neither party is liberal. There are the Repubs and the watered down Repubs.

Would love to see Al Gore run one more time. He'd romp it in I reckon. Imagine how much less shit the US would be in if you voted for the boring guy in the last 2 presidential elections.

Off Subject: The Australian Labour Party has had a leadership change(2 major partys in Australia, Liberals and Labour. John Howards Liberals are in power at the moment). What is most excellent about this is that Ex Midnight Oil frontmen Peter Garrett MP has been promised a front bench shadow ministery position under the new leadership of Kevin Rudd. He already hold the portfolios of indigenous affairs and reconcilliation(anyone remember the sorry T-Shirts Midnight Oil wore at the Olympics games opening ceremony in Sydney 2000, was an apology to the Aboriginals for past attrocities), the Arts and he just got a new one of water management(the drought in Oz is at epic proportions) This all sounds very trivial at the moments, but this is a massive day of change in Australia politics. And here's hoping Garrett goes all the way to the top job. If he does you will see a whole world changing for the better.

    lame.

hillary won't win if she runs. it was said earlier, there aren't enough people that would vote for a woman as president. not at this time, probably not in my lifetime, but possibly in my childrens.

    if mccain runs, he'll win.

I liked McCain many years ago. Not now, he became a politician in the true sense the last 6 years. He panders with the best of them. I'm hoping both parties have candidates who actually give a crap about us.

Not to mention how he has long been known for efforts to keep informantion classified on MIAs and POWs left behind in Vietnam. I wonder what he's got to hide.

Garret for Prime Minister eh? I don't know. I can't see the labor party ever electing him as their leader. I think he has too many image and credibility problems at this early stage in his career as a labor politician. Australia still sees him as the rock star that sold out on his ideals to chase a career in mainstream politics. Give him five or ten years to prove himself first.

He rubbed a few the right way too apparently. Or they rubbed him . . .

    I couldn't resist.

No doubt about it his biggest challenge will be for the leadership of the Labour party. But I do think even if were elected instead of Rudd yesterday the Australia public would give him a go. A agree he has had image problems but disagree with the creditability and sell out side of the argument. He has never hidden his ambition to lead this country and the reality is this was the only way he was ever going to be able to do it.

But yes I do worry about what it going to take to get him elected as the party leader.

I think it is important to point out that Al Gore won the popular vote. More people voted for Gore than Bush, but Gore lost because of how the votes were distributed via the electoral college. The electoral college is a horribly out-of-date system, and I can't imagine why we Americans weren't marching in the streets after that election and calling for its abolition.
  • Hillary won't win.

America is definately not ready for a woman in the Oval Office.

The Dems better try a different approach. I dont think McCain is right for the job. Obama has good speaking skills, but he may not be seasoned enough. I do think a Dem will be elected, but I still think the Republicans will put up a tight race.

I hope it comes down to McCain and Obama, so I can vote third party, but not feel guilty if either of them wins. I tend to like them both.

I agree. She's the Republicans wet dream. If she runs they are guaranteed a win.
