Any fans here on the board?

He is brilliant. One of my classmates said she framed "the culture of make believe" and put it on her wall.

I dont blame her.

  • Don't know the guy, but according to wiki:

Jensen is often labeled an anarcho-primitivist, by which is meant he believes that civilization[3] is inherently unsustainable and based on violence. He argues that the modern industrial economy is fundamentally at odds with healthy relationships, the natural environment, and indigenous peoples. Jensen's work catalogues what he perceives as the pervasiveness of abuse, hatred, rape, environmental destruction, and dishonesty (which he says serves to maintain the systemic abuse of civilization). He concludes that the very pervasiveness of these behaviors indicates that they are diagnostic symptoms of the greater problem of civilization itself.

Yeah...I'm down with that. "anarcho-primitivist" interesting term. Didn't know I kinda was one... :)
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

  • yeah in eugene, this is often thought of as anarchist central.

We are the hometown of John Zerzan, another anarcho primitivist

Anarcho primitivism is interesting. Its taking a left stance, a left wing stance, that we should change the world and society and stop violence, racism, sexism and so on. But it goes a step further. Where people like Nader or Al Gore or name your favorite anti war activist here, where they end, this idea picks up.

its the idea that we need to go back, way back, and live like our ancestors did, hunters and gatherers, plowing the fields.

I often refer to tearing up the roads and concrete and pavement when "the revolution occurs and anarchoprimitivism is much in line with that.

I definitely find this topic extremely seductive.

Its the idea that the system has gotten SO bad, that the only way to deal with it, is to tear it ALL down, and live as hunter and gatherers

    If nothing else its provacative

It's interesting to see it like that. In the past few years I keep thinking again and again (and again) how incredibly nice it would be to live in a tropical setting farming my own food, living an extremely simple life, having meager belongings with loving a wife and family. I guess it could be anywhere but if I'm daydreaming, might as well go for the paradise effect with palm trees, white sand beaches, and stunning pale blue azure waters.

I think this ultimately may be the reality of the situation.
