Deval Patrick. Don't agree with everything he stands for, but does anyone always agree 100% with a politician? I know it's history making that he is the second black governor ever, but I hope it doesn't turn into always being about race. This state has bigger issues than that.

I've seen what he wants to do with health care for the elderly and that's important to me. Romney fucked it all up, cutting funding for the elderly.

Goodbye Mitt Romney you dirty piece of shit. Get out of the state and take your "part time" residence with you. I pray that he does not run from president in 2008.

    I kinda hope he runs.

I don't at all. He has done NOTHING for this state the whole time he was here. He didn't even LIVE here! Oh wait, he had part time residence. I truly believe the only reason he wanted to be governor here was so he would stand a better chance to run for president.

If we have another Republican in the White House, so be it....as long as it's ANYONE but him!

I voted for Deval Patrick mainly because Kerry Healey was too awful to accept.

However, when I watched his speech last night, I really felt like he wasn't a typical politician. He was bolder than he was before the election - perhaps getting elected freed him. I mean, he was talking about how he would go to work for high school dropouts and homeless people! You never hear that shit. Throughout the speech, he had force behind his words. There were times I even thought he was badass. My g/f and I were both impressed, but maybe we were just under the spell of his performance, or overly optimistic about the Democratic victories yesterday. So, it's too early to say if he (and the Dems in U.S. Congress) will really change things, but I'll be watching.
  • I know he's the 1st Mass. black governor, but 2nd for the whole country? That's unbelievable. I assumed there were much more than that in the past. Who's the other? Obama?

A lot of people are worried about giving illegal aliens liscenses and in state college tuition. I'm Ok with the tuition one, but liscenses? I don't get it.

By the way, how do illegal aliens get into state colleges unless they go to high school? Are they going to high school on our dime while their parents are working under the table, not paying taxes?

People make too much out of race in my opinion. The fact that it is significant shows just how far we have to go to judge people on their personal merits alone.

    Congrat Mass.

    1 black governor...

2 old, rich, white, longtime senators....

    Mass - a voice of change? ;)

I almost died laughing listening to Kerry speak about how Mass voters proved that it doesn;t matter where you came from m(rich, poor), your color, etc. etc. etc. ..... Right before all that BS he congratualted Mass for re-electing Ted Kennedy...it was classic.

  • Doug Wilder- Virginia 89.

I like Patrick, I voted for him, and I am hoping that his fresh approach pays dividends.

Yeah, I'm all set with this idea of his. It isn't OK (in my eyes) for illegals to get in state tuition. School is expensive enough. Let the illegal aliens pay a higher rate, then perhaps they will become citizens. You only have to be in the state for at least 6 months to get in state tuition. I bust my ass to go to school, I don't want to pay more because of this.

I don't understand the whole drivers license thing either. That's all this state needs. It's giving illegal aliens a reason to come here and not pay taxes.

yea I agree. the fact that he is black doesnt really matter to me. neither did the ford guy in TN. or obama potenitally being the first black president. its great to be the first but are we going to continue this trend over time. like john doe is the 19th governer in america. who cares. take race out of it.

The reason I said I hope he runs is that I think he's very beatable.

Amen to that. I cant see the South liking him even if he is a GOP member. Plus he flip-flopped pathetically from his own views to get the MA Governoship.

Even to mention it is a form of racism in my opinion and further slows our progress toward judging people on their character.

why is it so bad for a person to change their mind...in high school i was a budding republican, even voted for H.W....then I "flip-flopped" and felt that other ideas were better...isn't that a form of an advanced politician to admit their wrongs? I mean I don't love the guy but flip-flopping is a stupid catchphrase in my opinion.

I am a registered "Green", I voted for Ross. She got 2% of the vote. I am a green but I often vote for Progressive Democrats. In my particular town, it was good to hear that not one single vote has been miscounted or screwed up in nearly 30 years. The flip side is that the woman who oversaw many of those elections, is retiring. Still, that is an amazing figure when you consider all the past problems, i.e. hanging chads, electronic voting glitches, etc.

  • I'm a proud supporter of Deval - he's really the first candidate for any office that I've felt strongly about. I was lucky enough to be at his victory party on Tuesday night, and while I certainly could have done without John Kerry's presence, I thought it was a great night. I'm quite hopeful that Deval will actually be able to get some things done on Beacon Hill, though that is easier said than done in this state, er, Commonwealth.

Sorry to digress a bit here, it's just that it seems to me that States seem to be in this trend of what Federal government backing they can get and that is the end all and be all of the Senatorial and Congressional purpose.

    Fuck that.
