Many fur or fur-trimmed jackets sold in the United States as having "faux fur" -- or not labeled at all -- are actually made, at least in part, from dog fur, the Humane Society of the United States said at a Capitol Hill news conference Wednesday.

I heard a bit of this on the news this morning...weird.

The $150 limit seems stupid...should be if it has any fur it has to be identified.

Wow, that is really disturbing. I was in stores over Christmas and did the touch test on several fur collars. I thought they were making really good faux fur because it felt so much like real fur. Of course, I don't even buy faux fur because I don't want to even appear to be wearing fur. However, I'm sure there are people out there who were trying to be conscientious and made an effort to buy faux fur only to find out they had been lied to. Of course, those who have benefitted from this misrepresentation: The fur producers, the clothing manufacturers, and the retailers. I bet it is cheaper to import real fur from China and other 3rd world countries rather than make a good quality faux fur.

Your right about that. I've heard that up to 80% of the fur sold in North America comes from Chinese fur farms. They don't have a single animal welfare law or standard in place so these animals go through some pretty horrible torture. Often they are skinned alive. Plus they make a bunch of money skinning dogs and cats then mislabeling it.

I don't really see the problem.

The problem is that dogs have fleas, and I don't want to wear something that's made out of a material that at one time had fleas.

Oh yeah, cause you can get parasites from fleas. That's why I don't own (have) a pet.

My dog has the same sentiments.
